RE: The Next Superpower in the World

It doesn't matter what you or I think of their human rights breaches.
Might be very relevant to their future prosperity though.
The key word here is social stability, and given all the toes they tread on(internally),plus wide-spread poverty still, forced evictions of millions without adequate compensation, corruption galore,a wealth gap thats widening and if they keep being the cheap labour capitol of the world, then it can only widen more, and on and on etc, etc.

No stability,no prosperity, and promises of future wealth won't quell the peasants for ever.Nope,no guarantees for now.

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

Confused?dunno

Since they started spruiking about concepts like compassion, kindness, charity and the like.

And that compass needs a standard,it needs a point of reference,For three billion people religion is the standard.Probably a good thing the moral codes they adhere to aren't as blood thirsty as you make out or no doubt the world would be worse of. beer

RE: The Next Superpower in the World

Why is it mildly disturbing? Well I've seen bits and pieces on how they treat there niegbours for one.Like taking batons to unarmed tibetan monks heads.Lovely stuff.Anyway I guess many nations have blood on their hands so,perhaps I shouldn't be so quick to judge but I do wonder, despite their looming prosperity and all,if given the chance,to have elections that included alternantives to the one party, would the population continue to vote for the current system?

RE: why America wants to attack Iran?

New carpet for the white house?dunno Not sure really.

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

So where did the likes of mother theresa pop up from,is the dalai lama spreading hate is he. Think sometimes the "religion spills blood" bit gets a little exagerated. Also I agree, moral codes are taught, and I think teaching the moral code of buddha and jesus provide a better world than teaching the moral code of alexander the great and attila the hun.beer

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

Well if it is beneficial to have a spiritual compass then could we say that religion,in general has been beneficial to the world, and infact where better of with it,as opposed to without, cause what other entity can claim to have been so influential in regards to living by a certain standard, that being thy shall not kill, love thy neighbor and all that, what other entity promotes charitable acts more than religion has.?confused

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

They bought forth moral codes that became very influential, there message was spread through religion, and that message, essentially being peace, love and mung beans could well be more responsible for the adherence to a somewhat peaceful mode of life than many give credit for.

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

Lucky for you, trouble is most chronic homelessness is actually a result of the fact that an idividual doesn't have a friend in the world, can't even get a couch to crash on.Add to this they frequently stink, show anti-social behaviour and if they to turn up on most peoples door step, the police would be rung, the charities that don't turn them away, are very often church affiliated,I don't the see the australian stock exchange building providing services, its church afilliated charities, more often than not it would seem.

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

Perhaps not, however I don't believe the notion of morality, and what constitutes good and bad just popped out of thin air,it was bought forth by the budda, jesus and the like,it was bought forth under the banner of religion. So religion gets the credit.wine

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

Thats great, would it by chance have being friends, family,or complete strangers,or some sort of organized group?
I would still say that the majority of regular charity providers, those servicing soup kitchens and the like, would be afilliated with some religious order. beer

RE: The Next Superpower in the World

Well I'll take your word on all that as I really don't keep on top of the latest international economic news, however I've come across the odd bit of news that would suggest chinas a bubble that could well pop.

Anyway, what ever come of the falun-gong movement, remember them, setting fire to themselves and stuff, just like the tibetans lately, must be traditional other there or something. The powers that be seem to tread on alot of toes to keep their paradise afloat, dreadful to think of whose toes there gonna tread on when there a superduperpower.beer

RE: Would a world without religion be a better place???

I'm not so sure on this one.I do beleive we need need some sort of entity that at least attempts to provide an unquestionable take on morality, belief in god does that,after-all large groups of people living together can only work if theres pretty much universal acceptance of law,if that acceptance stems from the fact that the laws based on directives from the divine and sacred,is it more likely to be adhered too?

Of course one could also say aspects of religion provide perfect fodder for a great scam but either way,one thing for sure is if your down on your luck and homeless or whatever,it's very likely it'll be
an affiliate of some religious order that gives you some food.

RE: The Next Superpower in the World

I don't believe australia has any in service air-craft carriers, few decommissioned ones, however none in service.
Admittedly I wouldn't know an air-craft carrier from a row boat however according to wikipediagrin America has more in service air-craft carriers than the rest of the world combined.Interesting that and suggests that it might take more than just fluffing up the GDP through the construction of ghost towns before china can obtain any genuine clout.Either way I hope they don't cause the thought of the powers that be there with un-checked power,is a mildly disturbing thought.cheers

RE: How Do You Feel About Gray Hair?

RE: Do you have corrupt leaders in your country like the one we have president Zardari?

No.Certainly not rampant,or systemic, although greeds greed, some will alway's succumb to it,probably be the odd bit of payola involed in the issuing of certain permits, contracts and the like, couldn't be too much though.

RE: The Next Superpower in the World

Yet In 2009-2010 they "received" approx 41 million in aid from a minnow
like Australia, more front than Meyer I'd rekon. Also I think you'll find the US still gives more in foreign aid than anyone else,so they obviously do have the cash.

RE: The Next Superpower in the World

Call it what you like however given that around 10% of the population don't even crack the dollar a day mark, not to mention working class adults having to share a bed with two other adults,no dignity in that so their GDP can romp along as quick as it likes however if they don't adress issues like those stated above, then perhaps there'll come a time when they have to many internal issues on their hands to worry about whether or not there percieved as a superpower.
