I'm very uncomfortable when someone wants to talk or text on the phone or use instant messaging right away. That's a good way to get bombarded with spam.

If necessary, I first press "1" or whatever to get a person whose time I can waste.

Caller: "Lower your credit card rates to 0%."
Me: "I'd like to borrow $1,000,000 at 0%, invest the money, then pay you back."

Caller: explains life insurance policy he's selling
Me: "I'm only interested if I can collect without croaking."

I consider it a success when they hang up on me.
