I always approach everything with an open mind... but watching a train accident about to happen, being open-minded doesn't necessarily change the outcome. Although, at least the site-control will be a little easier with that open mind.
That's an interesting career. I believe the higher you go and more experienced you become often it turns towards politics... whether it's in-house politics for the place you work for...or politics on a global scale... somehow it just gets more involved over time. Do you ever miss working there?
