RE: Moving out of the USA

Try getting a job with the US government abroad. has a list of the types of jobs available. If you have the right credentials, I am told the State Department is having problems filling their Foreign Service Officer vacancies.

RE: are you right or left handed?

Ambidextrous -- I do some things better with either my left or right hand. I eat with a fork left-handed, but with chopsticks I can only do it right-handed. In baseball, I hit a higher number of pitches left-handed, but I hit them farther right-handed. I throw like a girl left-handed, but I think that is only because my family was poor and I used one of the other player's gloves all the time, and most of them were right-handed.

RE: Pass Ports

SouthernChick

You didn't do anything wrong. I may have spoke too matter of factly, but I didn't intend to hurt anyone's feelings. I just have a friend who is originally from Puerto Rico who has her birth date wrong on her OK license, and she has to go directly to the Tax Commission in OKC to fix it. They cannot fix those issues at the Tag Agency. They can do an address correction, but not specific info regarding your basic identification. I own a home in OKC, so I am familiar with how the Tag Agencies work.

Most Americans aren't familiar with passport issues. I dealt with them on a daily basis at Tinker AFB as a Unit Deployment Manager.

RE: Pass Ports

Yes, you are wrong. Passports are issued by the US State Department for US citizens. Oklahoma Tag Agencies can't even correct wrong information on a driver's license. They are contractors which assist Oklahoma residents to register their vehicles on behalf of the Oklahoma State government.

Passports must be applied for in person, and the instructions are at this website:

RE: extramarital relations

I think they can be exciting, but also very dangerous, because peoples' lives could be irreparably damaged by them. Not only the couples involved, but also any children depending on the parents. Some people really like them though, because of the thrill of something new and taboo.

RE: My Final Week. Thanks You, CS Forums.

StudioGuy, You just have to be patient and chill. There is no magic bullet to find someone. Just relax, enjoy the time with friends and be yourself. Eventually, you will click with someone and then you can move to a relationship.

Patience is really a good trait to have. It seems everyone is wanting instant gratification these days. I am not talking about you specifically, but in general we see something we want, and we don't want to wait until we have money or wait until it is built. Relationships are built over time and two months on the internet isn't enough communication to establish one.

RE: EVER FELT LONELY WATCHING OTHER COUPLES?

Shortly after my divorce I did, but that was 10 years ago. It is a bad feeling, and I wish no one ever had to feel that. I hope things will work out for everyone here that they don't have to experience this.

Looking for Recommendations in Prague

I'm traveling to Prague next weekend. Does anyone here know a romantic place or restaurant to go to? After dinner I will go for drinks and am looking for a quiet place to have a few drinks and talk.

I am unfamiliar with the city, so any help is appreciated.

RE: can online friendship survive after meeting in person

I guess I don't post enough. I've never had an online friend. moping

RE: what does ur house say about u?

Mine says, "Gone again". It is rented while I am working overseas for at least two years. Living in a hotel for the past 40 days, waiting for my new flat which will be home for a couple of years.

I need to retire so I can set down some roots. <sigh>

RE: which country have the most beautiful girls?

So true. The Venus di Milo would be a plump girl in our society, but in ancient times she was viewed as perfection.

RE: Faux Pax......?

Yes, it is true. I was born in Kentucky, but since dad was in the Navy we left, and I didn't get the "hick" accent. Especially when it comes to French place names in the U.S., the pronunciations are horrible, and you cannot convince the locals that they aren't saying it right. Just outside of my hometown there is a town named, "Versailles". They pronounce it "Ver-saylz". frustrated

RE: Church

Jadea,

You may have a tough time in France. They are around 90% Catholic. There may be only one Seventh Day Adventist church in the whole country. Just pick up a phone book and look up L'eglies (churches). You may also be able to contact your church in the US and see if any affiliated churches are in Paris.

RE: Positive experience from the internet

I know three guys who met their wives through the internet. They have all been married for over three years. They seem to get along as well as couple that meet through traditional meetings.

By the way, none of the couples met through dating web sites like this one. Two met through normal internet chat and the third met through the online game "World of Warcraft"

RE: Hi from Greece!

I just discovered that the UN also doesn't recognise it as the Republic of Macedonia, but also refers to Macedonia as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. I am not sure what the difference is, but everyone seems careful to make a distinction between the two names.

This debate is much like the situation in Cyprus. Not to minimize the importance, but a disagreement here will not resolve the issue. It is like two fleas arguing over who owns the dog. None of us really owns any part of the Earth. We temporarily occupy a part of it, and then we die. God owns the Earth and one day he will take it back. Fighting over it only causes suffering during our short time here.

RE: Hi from Greece!

NATO recognizes it as "the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" I believe Turkey is the only NATO country that accepts Macedonia as the Republic of Macedonia. There are still a lot of unresolved issues in the Balkans, and it seems that folks have just agreed to disagree on a lot of them.

RE: which country have the most beautiful girls?

Statistically speaking, the country with the most beautiful girls would have to be China. With over 1 Billion people, it is a given. laugh

Now if you mean which country has the greatest percentage of women that are beautiful, I'd have to pick Poland. I've been to 14 different countries, and Poland by far has the greatest percentage of beautiful women. It is like I've landed in the land of Super Models. What is amazing is that they aren't stuck on themselves either. They for the most part have the sweetness and innocence of a young girl, and appear not to be jaded like many of the women I have met in other countries.

RE: International English

I think it will depend on the native speaker. Many native speakers in the US have thick accents or speak a dialect ("jive", Cajun and Ebonics comes to mind) which even native speakers have a tough time understanding. I originally come from Kentucky, but since I have moved a lot, I sometimes have problems understanding folks back "home".

RE: Who is/or has been in the military?

19 Years, USAF, still active duty, 3C3X1, Communications Planner. Been to Keesler, Peterson, Vandenberg, Turkey, Azores, Hurlburt, Korea, Tinker and now Poland.

RE: Men's value increase with age and women decrease...

Smoky, I was just voicing an opinion, which I thought was allowed. It wasn't meant as an attack on your character. Apparently, I struck a nerve. I'm sorry about that.

Let's start over. Hi. I'm Nelson and I'm new here. handshake

RE: Men's value increase with age and women decrease...

I'm sorry. If you really believe that, I think I understand why men without notice stop calling you (reference to the earlier thread yesterday). Beliefs like that have a way of bubbling up to the surface.

At least in the U.S., women and men are about as equal is they've ever been in history. I can't speak much about Europe and Asia. I have spent relative less time there. In my opinion, religion is not the root of the inequality. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been so prevalent throughout history, even when major religions differ in their beliefs. Case in point, you mention Christianity as being the root, but in Japan, women are still treated as inferior, even though Christianity has never had much of a following there.

IMO the reason why men dominated through history is because of their greater physical strength. They became the hunters while the women took care of the children. I'm not defending how women have been treated in the past, but I don't buy that Christianity has anything to do with it.

RE: Men's value increase with age and women decrease...

Many women have this misconception. My ex-wife complained to me when we divorced that I was only doing this to get a younger woman. I told her it was to find a woman that didn't treat me bad. That was nine years ago, and I only dated one woman that was younger than me in that time.

I may not be typical, but I'd rather have someone I can have a conversation with as a partner. Someone 20 years younger than me would have more in common with my daughter...

RE: Tips for man!!!!!

I have some tips for women:

#1 Don't make a guy dress up and go to a rty more than a few times a year. Many guys would love to be buried in jeans and a t-shirt.

#2 Do drink too much and try to be the "life of the party". You onlly embarras the guy your with. The only one you need to impress is the guy you come to the party with.

#3 Don't start talking about marriage within the first six months of dating. I had a girlfriend ask if she could move in two weeks after meeting her. I tell you that is a little scary no matter how much you like a girl.

#4 Don't redecorate the guy's apartment with flowers, candles, or your stuff unless he's told you to move in.

#5 Don't contact his friends/family to set up dinners/social events to show what a good homemaker/wife you'd make until you are actually married to the guy.

Regarding the previous list, I am they guy the girls all confide in about their crappy boyfriends. I have a crush on half of them, but they won't date me, because they don't want to lose my friendship. #1 is so true. <sigh>

RE: Why do humans love?

One other thing about pheromones...they are what cause many animals to mate. No proof, of course, but most scientists don't believe animals "love" one another -- they simply mate.

RE: (anti) nationalism thread

:UN: Let's see if that worked.

RE: (anti) nationalism thread

Jan,

You are correct. Most Americans have not traveled or lived abroad. Even when they do travel, they isolate themselves into a small English-speaking community. This narrows their perspective of the World, and has a negative impact on the decisions they make regarding World issues. To me, as an American who has spent several years living abroad in Europe and Asia, that is sad.

RE: (anti) nationalism thread

The United States has been one country for over 200 years, yet people are very proud of the State within the Country where they are from. I think people will always have some pride in where they come from. They will normally think where ever they are from is better in some way than where others come from.

People are driven to Nationalism normally to preserve their culture. They don't want some outsider to affect the way of life they are accustomed to. This is the root of the problems in the Middle East right now. The Islamic fundamentalists don't like the influence the Western world is having on their culture. They like the old ways with subservience of women, strict adherance to religious law, etc., etc. They see the U.S. and other western countries as a threat to their way of life. They see our ways sinful. We see their ways as barbaric and a violation of human rights. Somewhere in between lies the truth.

Pride in one's nation is not necessarily a bad thing in itself. However, to an extreme it is destructive. How many millions more will die because of this? I am in the military, so Nationalism insures I have a job tomorrow. However, I would be one of the happiest people on this Earth if tomorrow I was no longer needed, because there was peace everywhere.

RE: one thing in your life you wished youd done but havent

I've always wanted to go to Russia. I never thought it was possible, because it was too far. Now work has brought me to the Brink...it is possible! :)

RE: what have you achieved

Seven accomplishments in the order that they came to me:

1. Became a Father on 19 Feb 1992; I later saved my daughter's life when she had a piece of hot dog stuck in her throat as a 1 year old.
2. Been to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado (I drove my car).
3. I've been in the Command Post inside of Cheyenne Mountain.
4. I've been to the DMZ between North and South Korea.
5. I've been on the U.S. Secretary of Defense's aircraft.
6. I sat in the seat next to the Boom Operator on a KC-135 as he refueled a Squadron of A-10s over the Atlantic.
7. I am the only U.S. Air Force person ever permanently assigned to Poland. All other Airmen in Poland were in the Army Air Corps prior to the Korean War.
