Yes... (un)fortunately... most of our system is still following the British established system, who wanted the Indians to do only clerical work to support their empire when they were ruling India. Slowly but surely things are changing.
In India... official languages are few... like English, Hindi, Urdu... etc but many regional languages which are the official languages of the respective states. Yes, English is taught as a secondary (and some places even primary) language in most of the schools and that is the reason we have so many English speaking people In India... and a plus point over Chinese :)
Today India has become the hub for service exports... much like the manufacturing export hub China. One of my colleague here has aptly put it that globalisation is good. It will put an end to the difference (financial) between different parts of the world... and if it continues in the right spirit... will sooner make the world stable (with least financial and cultural differences). But that is the positive side only ;)
But is the criteria of forming a great country based only on language? Isn't other factors more important like financial stability, military power and security, sharing of a more widely available resources, national and international representations, etc...!
I feel how great India is... since it is a huge democracy with 25+ spoken languages and each of the 25+ states having their own different culture. If each state is disintegrated from the main land... all of them can form countries bigger than many in the EU :)
But we are not talking about nationalism here. I guess our concern is more about the problems related to immigration... which, in my opinion, mostly arises because of beleif in a religion with aggressive propaganda... whether it is Islam or Christianity or Jewism... (one can add to the list... but these are the most prominent ones in today's world) :)
After 8pm.. it is queit everywhere... so decided to have this separate thread only for us evening freaks... will not be posting anyhign here until it is evenign and there is not much crowd around :)
This is for all those who login late (local time after 8pm, whichever timezone u r in)...
Anybody who wants to catch up with late evenign freaks, shall follow this thread and discuss anythgin that is of interest to them, but only after 8pm their local time.
At all other times, use the specific threads with proper subject to post your messages :)
And what about human beings who eat only vegetarian food throughout their life? Like the Budhists, Jains... Hindus... and many saints all over the world?
The positive thing about it is: at least we two are consistent in being regular at this forum :)
I'm new to this place... so don't know many people around... except for my colleagues. I come home after office hours and I login to the net, read some news... articles, reply to friends emails, play chess :)
Well, this draws attention because of the comment "USA helping other countries..."
Like the people in Iraq? Like the Afghanis? Like the Somali/Sudanese?
This article might be of interest to you...
"The United States has decided to end all bilateral financial aid to rising India, following the country’s economic surge in recent years. The aid to India for the coming fiscal year will be a measly $ 81 million (for more than 1billion people) from $ 124.9 million in fiscal 2006. For the past few years, India has been stressing that what it needs is fair practice in trade, not aid. Some of Washington’s predatory actions costs India a lot more than what US gives in aid. For instance, the US practice of extracting social security tax from guest workers from India (H1-B visa holders) nets Washington more than $500 million annually. This money is not repatriated to India even when the workers return, due to absence of a totalisation agreement that Washington is reluctant to sign. Other disagreements between the two sides, in areas such as food import/export, cost both sides billions, dwarfing any aid figures."
This is just one example. So no country (particularly the US) helps another one without seeing any benefit/advantage in their relationship.
Coming back to this thread... as I'd posted earlier... a government/law can't enforce "family values". It is purely dependent on the individual... the kind of education he gets, his financial status, his society, his health condition, the freedom he enjoys, the rights he have... and the government/laws can only improve these benefits to the individual which will in-turn make him a better family man.
I could help you with that... but will be very slow in developing that. If it was for money, I know a group of people (my friends) who do it on contract basis....
I completely agree. It is better than posting a fake photo... last week I saw somebody who replied in one of the EU Forum threads using a popular Indian star's photo...!
