"the current ratio of men to women" Well, men are more pro-active...not as subtle - 'I want a woman so i'll go and get one'. Also, men do find it much more difficult to exist as a single...women who have suffered can be loathe to jump back into a realtionship for a long time.
"that men drive the direction of the relationship" Depends...and let's face it, some women like a man to make a few decisions! Swings and roundabouts I think on that one.
"in most society men are expected to initiate, and thus often have have the luxury of choice......." Men can certainly choose to initiate and offer themselves, but the women can choose whether or not to accept such initiative! I've always thought that women can afford to sit back and wait for the men to come knocking...see above!
