Lots of countries have abolished the death penalty and their societies are no worse than that of the US. Crime rates are not higher. Jails are not more crowded. Why is that do you think?

I had noticed he was a ruthless murderer. Problem is if you give AUTHORITY the power to kill then oftentimes they kill. I wouldn't compare Texas to Saddam's Iraq but the underlying principle is the same. I am in power, I can kill you. Not something I am comfortable with.
Good joke! Unless you are in the Capital of course. But even if I were religious and accepted your scripture details it still begs the question "Who gave us, you or me or the Government the right to kill another?"
I'm not really a bible person but I note all those who quote God and also say "Kill the bad guys". I thought that one of the main points of Christianity was NOT to kill people. I could be wrong.
As to your question - I would be very angry but you can't base society on revenge. Killing is either right or wrong. If it is ok to kill for one reason then it becomes ok to kill for another. It used to be ok to burn witches - whatever a witch is???? Is that ok now? What changed? How did it change?
Wow it must be great to be right about everything all the time. Somebody pointed out earlier that it is almost entirely poor people that get executed. Now why would that be? Do rich people not commit crimes?
One reason for not killing people would be the precept "Thou shalt not kill" but people seem to think that that bit of Christian faith doesn't apply to them.
RE: capital punishment necessary or humans playing god?
