The scammers are a nuisance everywhere. These you can detect easily and ignore. There are, however, a lot of time wasters.
There are also clues to these. The first is the sheer length of time that they have been on the site. Check that out first. The second is no picture means that they are obviously hiding something. Don't even bother with these.
There is another category and they are the never ending pen pals who you will never get to meet and if you do you will be sleeping on the sofa. You can detect these ones fairly early on in the mails as you will see that they become quite angry when you don't rise to the bait..
They mostly lead a Walter Mitty life full of drama and try to keep their victims hanging on as long as possible. They mostly just like yapping, but there are a few who become obnoxious as well.
The secret of dealing with these is to let them run on whilst unbeknown to them, you are playing your favourite computer game and then just suddenly delete them in mid flow.
You do meet a few genuine ones though, so I wouldn't say that they are all fakes or time wasters.

When you find out that they are hiding that they are as ugly as sin or rolling with fat.

Whatever you both decide from the beginning. This is a dating site and you get quite a list build up in the mail, so you have to reply to lots of people out of courtesy.

You can, however, see on messenger for example where people are having multiple conversations at the same time when talking to you and my advice is to drop them immediately as they are time wasters and move onto the next one. Also you can see here on the CS site on your favourite list if the other person has been on here recently. It shows the date.

End of serious conversation and back to the mailbox.

When you exchange mails with somebody on here and then 20 mails later they tell you that they are a deeply Christian woman. This isn't so bad, but when it clearly says that you are pagan on your profile and they haven't put anything about their religion on theirs you immediately get turned off.
One can only assume that they are either blind or cannot read.
They don't mention their own belief on their profile either because that is a turn off for most.
They probably are on a thrill ride with the forbidden fruit for as long as possible. May their god go with them...preferably far away from me.

That is why you are supposed to read the profile first. There are many filters and for good reason. People on here have to get through a lot of mail in their inbox every morning and many of the correspondents obviously do not read the profiles properly.
