This used to happen to me a lot. I would have no messages until I resync my phone and then they all come pouring in at once. It was an issue with the phone itself not connecting to towers.
I don't know what a breadcrumber is, but as far as receiving late messages/texts. I tell them to go to sleep if I don't want to be bothered. I unmatch/block if it is from a dating website as that is basically desperation.
