I’ve visited several states, and lived in a couple as well. Liked them all. I think Ohio was my favorite as far as the folks there. Friendliest place i’ve ever visited.
I was born and raised in New Jersey and I miss it. I lived in Florida for three years and hated it. I lived in Virginia for five years and liked it. I live in North Carolina now and hate it.
I loved living in the Denver area of Colorado. There was a lot of free cultural things to do there. Free days at the zoo, museums, symphony concerts and free off broadway shows as well. Then you can take a 30 minute bus ride to Boulder and hike the many trails in the mountains they had there. The Denver metropolitan area has over 300 miles of bicycle trails as well. They also had a cultural weekend for the performing arts which was free. Wyoming was a beautiful state to visit but I would not want to live there. One of my profile pictures is of me at Artists Point by the Lower Falls in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
For the options provided on the poll I voted for Virginia. Been there a few times on vacation - the mountains and the beaches. Loved it. But it is still a 2nd choice, By far my favorite state is Maine. Been there a few times over the years and never had a bad moment. It's beautiful country. and I lurves me some lobster :)

Did you know Maine is the only State with one syllable in its name. Just thought I'd mention that....
Spent a few months in Connecticut and a short while in California. I found California a lot more agreeable than CT. I'd love to visit more States, especially after reading Bill Bryson's The Lost continent-Travels in Small Town America and Notes From a Big Country.

Too many places and not enough time though.
I like New England and NY and Pennsylvania - I'm from the NE - no desire to go to California. But no one visiting the US should miss Maine. I haven't spent time in the West. But in the Midwest - Kentucky is beautiful mountain country and western Virginia [not West Virginia - though for the mountains West Va is also lovely]
Although there are some winners listed in the poll, I think, even though much of it is dessert, Utah wins my vote I think the whole state should be declared a National Park. .

I lived in Boulder for a while, back in the 70s...
Denver had some of the best Mexican food I have ever enjoyed!
I went to the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. I didn't climb it, I was in a van
The ride up there was beautiful seeing all those mountains but the road we were on wasn't paved and I was scared to death that we would go over the side.
The top of Mt. Washington holds the record for having the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States.
More information ...
The Mount Washington Observatory reported early Saturday that the summit tied for second-coldest place on earth, at a brisk -36 degrees Fahrenheit.
It was just 2 degrees from the coldest locations, Yakutsk, Russia, and Eureka, Nunavut, which recorded -38, according to the weather observer.
At 6,288 feet, Mount Washington is "home of the world's worst weather," as it is celebrated by the observatory, a non-profit organization.
Observers recorded a 231 mph wind gust, a record that held until Typhoon Olivia at an unmanned instrument station in Australia in 1996.
Along with the deep freeze Saturday, the Mount Washington Observatory reported wind gusts of 92 mph.
Temperature profile, Mount Washington Observatory, mid-Saturday morning. Its summit forecast mid-morning Saturday was a high in the mid-20s below, and a wind chill factor of 70-80 below, and potential for wind gusts up to 105 mph.
On Dec. 28, the observatory recorded a temperature of -34, which was a daily record for that date. The all-time record was -47, set in 1934.
secretagent09, I love reading about and looking at pictures of Mount Washington in my hiking groups. It's a very interesting place. You have another place similar near you. Ever visited Grandfather Mountain? You should read up on it, even visit. But if you plan to visit do it soon. Weather is very unpredictable there and similar to Mount Washington. You are currently living in a beautiful state. I wonder how much you've seen of it. Our tallest mountain on the east coast is in that state....Mount Mitchell. I live in southwest Virginia, bordering North Carolina and Tennessee.

No, I've never been to Grandfather Mountain and don't have any interest in going there. I went to Mt. Washington 40+ years ago when I could go on such adventures. Can't do that kind of physical stuff anymore. I would like to see Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and the Redwood Forest but it's unlikely I will.

My favourite state is sitting on my veranda watching the tide turn as I sip a gin and tonic, I find that is a very relaxing state. I'm striving to attain a stress free and contented state.

I envy you Riz. I haven't had that relaxing state of mind for at least 40 or more years when I used to go to the Jersey shore and sit on the beach watching my little daughter build sand castles.
If you do attain that stress free contented state you should bottle it. You will become a billionaire overnight.

Lol. You may well be right. I’ll look into the feasibility of bottling contentment, I am sure it will sell well in many countries not just the good old US of A
