RE: How many authentic approaches do you get in a month ...

I can't tell the difference really, so I just respond that I love you too and will come see you as soon as I get enough money to help my aged mom. Can you help?

Is there any other kind of message?

RE: First Car You Drove legally or illegally

Great thread and provoked equally great memories!

It wasn't my first car I drove. That memory is long gone. But here is the oldest.

At that time I was a kid and we would go up to a farm where a friend's dad had stocked his old barns with mostly decrepit fire trucks and this Oldsmobile. His showed its 50 years of age, so it was not so shiny. Tillers are fine up to about 5 mph.

Muscle Cars, not a poll, seeking opinions

99 of 50 climate politicians predicted about a year ago that the world will end in twelve years. The math is right, they talk shrilly. Their conclusion is that we could give up electric light, food and transportation and maybe we will be saved. Everyone would have to comply but them, of course.

It's a little bit of an in joke amongst sceptics. We've heard it for decades from nameless self-proclaimed experts, starting way before my time.

Muscle Cars, not a poll, seeking opinions

Since we only have about eleven years left, what would be the most fun ride to go out in style?

Obviously fuel economy is not a criteria here. Nor safety features. It's all about the get-up and go.

I think it would be nice to have a body style that is off cop radar, which rules out Lambos and such. Plus the maintenance is a bear.

I hear the Teslas are very peppy. But where I live, I'd need a five-hundred-mile extension cord. So I think it has to be gasoline. Sing out with opinions.

RE: What is the most recognized aircraft in the world?

They were trainers. The combat planes were single seat. Less area to cover with armor meant all kinds of good things in performance. Still a very meaty aircraft. Nothing like it today.

A fellow at my field bought one a few years ago, a two-seater. He could not fly it solo until he had some wild number of hours in type, due to insurance. Maybe 200? I don't recall. So he flew with my CFII, a steady stick. It was nice to hear that engine roar!

One nice day they took off and just past the end of the runway they augured in full power. Killed them both and the ship burned. We surmised that the owner was acting PIC and hit the throttle too aggressively after wheels up. That tiny little rudder has no authority at low speed and there's a huge P factor from the big prop with all those ponies. From 500' it was over in a fraction of a second. Bad day at Black Rock, as they say.

I'm into low and slow these days. Thinking of a repro antique, open cockpit to replace the Skylane. Certificated planes are a tyranny. Every time you get a postcard from the FAA, you know it's bad news for someone. I only go up when it's nice nowadays so experimental sounds like a lot more fun.

RE: 1111

Personally, I like 1234.

I use it for passwords especially.

Mel Brooks suggested it in "Spaceballs".

If it's good enough for the nucular discombobulator, it's good enough for me.

RE: Fiber Optics

Actually, they are Belgian Fries. Served in a paper cone. Ask any Parisian.

And Hex has it right. Kanga steaks are friggen awesome, much better than sliced bread, So sorry Merc, your thighs are probably too skinny to make a decent steak.

RE: Newfoundland

I got to stay in Gander for a week. Back in the early days of the 767, I booked to Paris on Untied Airlines. A little short of the halfway mark, the cabin pressurization failed. At low altitude, all we could make was Gander.

At that time, only Aeroflot and various Soviet militaries were stopping there, on their way to and from Cuba. So the once-busy terminal was almost abandoned.

They put us up in the No-Tell Motel close to the field. It had an excellent bar and food. I tried to get a fishing gig going, but the government had banned fishing. Fortunately they left drinking alone.

Seriously, I had a great time. Friendly people for sure. I'd go back but I changed airlines. American gets there every time.

RE: What is the most recognized aircraft in the world?

Not all of them had two seats. I too got to ride in one at about age 12, bought off the boneyard at Love Field Dallas and restored by a friend of my father. Way cool, far more than a Learjet.

RE: Fiber Optics

And I thought you were going to say it was the boomerang.

RE: I had A Break In A Few Days Ago

They work but I'd put them outside around the perimeter.

RE: What is the most recognized aircraft in the world?

Aww c'mon. The question should be, "Which one would you rather take a ride in?"

RE: The damage feminism has done to women and society

Perhaps not in Wales, but you do not have to go too far east to see it. Try some of the enlightened areas of London. Or Liverpool. Or Manchester. You've been invaded by something far more lethal than feminism. And in fact you have invited them in and pay to sustain them.

France is in far better shape than some of its neighbors. The USA has only small pockets of that noisy minority. But I digress.

You seem to want a return to things that were the MO for men and women in 1900 or earlier. It's not going to happen. The only people I see that want it are the "enlightened cultural invaders" and you. Not a very good club to be in.

I think you have your conclusion to your three questions exactly misplaced.

RE: I Copied This From The Blogs In Case Anyone Is Interested In A Celestial Event On Monday

Don't look. You WILL be sorry.

INSTEAD

Make a pinhole camera. It's easy and safe to use.
You will have to use some sharp things.
For God's sake BE CAREFUL !!!
Oh yeah, if it's cloudy, fuggedaboudid. drink beer instead.

PARTS LIST
Box about 10" cubic more or less
Knife (USE CAUTION OR GET BANDAGES)
Piece of aluminum foil (a few inches will do)
Pin (CAUTION - POINTY END IS SHARP)
Piece of white paper
Tape
Optionally some flat black spray paint for the deluxe model

INSTRUCTIONS
Cut the flaps off one end of the box. This makes the bottom of the camera.
Cut a hole 1" or so in the other end. This ia the top.
Spray paint the inside if you are making the deluxe model.
Tape the aluminum foil over the end with the hole.
Stick the pin through the foil. The smaller the hole, the better.
Set the paper on a table or chair (outside in the sun, dummy).
Hold the box above the paper, foil side up, pointed at the sun.
Look at the paper for the circle of the sun.
Adjust the height of the box up and down for best image.
You can enlist friends to hold umbrellas around you to darken things.
They will hate you later but will be impressed with your nerdiness,

For extra points, take pictures or a video with your cell phone to bore people.
This is the non-event of the decade, and you can laugh at all the fools who did it the other way while their eyes are aching. Meanwhile all your friends in the pub will be laughing at you for your nerdiness. This is called a win-win situation.

RE: ROADWORKS/ NEW ESTATES?????

Speechless at this thread...

RE: What Dies When We Die

I agree. I've experienced it twice now. I did not have devices turn on, as you did.

At the exact moment, the departing spirit was felt by everyone in the room, maybe even heard. It was very quiet, just before dawn in each case.

If it had been noisy, as in many hospital rooms, it might have been overlooked. It was very subtle, but clearly I felt the spirit exit. We all got up simultaneously saying nothing until we verified no breath and no pulse.

I had been non practicing and maybe even a little agnostic, because I had never had 'proof' acceptable to my scientific mind. I have much more reverence now, and find myself emotionally involved and reactive when I visit a place of worship.

RE: Dirt Cheap

She's got more than one. Her "little mountain chalet" in Telluride is also "understated" NOT

Bet she's got them all over the world. "If you've got it, flaunt it," are the words they live by.

RE: Weirdos on CS

So what's wrong with weirdos and scammers? If it weren't for them, there would be no one to talk to. Sheesh!

RE: Would you date someone whose 38 year old child lived at home ?

Only if she had seventeen cats and four pit bulls.

That way I would know that she is a very caring person.

RE: What is going to happen to the World Economy when America’s Economy collapses in 2021

As I said, Rob, you are a funny plum.

Write again when you need help. In the meantime, you have great social services who can offer you a safe space and warm fuzzies. Good luck!

RE: Advice needed

Not a good thing for your health, and it will get worse. For the holes, use window screen. Some stronger birds, including the little pest ones, will pull it apart to get by. So you may have to mix a little cement plaster to keep them at bay. Good luck!

If it's hopeless with too many places or you just want instant relief till spring, toss some mothballs up there. Just about every critter hates them.

Or banish your least favorite cat for a few nights in jail.

RE: What is going to happen to the World Economy when America’s Economy collapses in 2021

You are funny, Rob. Obviously you never learned in school about the War in the Pacific. So I wish you good luck with your present invasion and ongoing cultural enlightenment. Call us when you decide you want to retrieve your civilized values

RE: When you meet new people, do you start with 10 points?

I have used spreadsheets since Visiocalc and then 123. I even draft floorplans and layouts in Excel so I appreciate the versatility. I guess I reject human dynamics in little boxes. Among other things, how the heck could you prioritize the columns?

Ditto to what you say on pics. They lead to prejudging, at least for me.

And for 'actual', is that a genuine outcome of being here? Does that explain why so many have disappeared? Or is it just boredom with SOS?

RE: Feminine Protection Is No Longer "Feminine"

Funny comment.

Despite the lunacy of our governments endorsing such rot, I notice that passports only have two boxes to choose from.

Some day we should insist that schools go back to teaching biology and genetics rather than politics.

RE: When you meet new people, do you start with 10 points?

That's pretty sick. Sounds like someone who is gaming rather than forming personal impressions, and maybe has memory issues.

Photos are nice, but then I also like visualizing from the way a person writes and what they say. I can spot the dull or humorless quickly enough.

RE: Canada elects Fidel Castro's love child... AGAIN!

You kids are a total crackup. For those who clicked on the last post, let me summarize.

Trudeau's a ...

No he didn't and Trudeau is ...

Neener neener neener! But I exaggerate. Let's see what comes next.

RE: DESCRIBE AN EX USING....

No complaints. Many excellent women, all of them strong in their own fashion. We just grew apart, some of them faster than others. For those still living, I wish them all well, both health and happiness.

RE: columbus day?

It's simple.

Indians lost, Europeans won.

Game over. Happy Columbus Day!
