The same thing happened to my brother. Incredibly painful for him and his two teenage daughters and, yes, incredibly selfish of her. Maybe you should ask before passing them up? Sounds like many here had a reason for that answer....
Sad, but you probably did the right thing. Having been blessed in the past with a wonderful partner, I could now never settle for less. There are plenty of joys awaiting you! Find someone who enhances your life instead of just complicating it.
