It is also made by machine, but quite inferior to the hand made process, which is a complicated and time consuming effort. The people who do it are highly skilled and patient.
Problem is that often the producers don't get paid fairly for their work, as the middle people grab most of the profit.
I think the OP is expressing concern that the much cheaper and inferior machine made batik will kill the demand for the handmade article. Also that young people will be reluctant to embark on a career in a "non-technological" work environment.
Ignore it....and go on doing what they do so well. That is the reason there is still such a demand for traditional Batik. Those who cannot afford it will opt to buy machine made.
There's a place for both in the world. There is really no comparison between machine made and that made by the traditional process.
An issue is that often the producers get a fraction of the value, while middle people take most of the profit.
This is where "Fair Trade" principals need to prevail, where producers get a fair price for their work......don't you agree?
People have no respect for anyone except for themselves, and their morals are few and far betweeen. Compassion is dying fast in this cut-throat to get ahead world.Sad sad sad
You are of course speaking entirely for yourself.....or do you have the authority and knowledge to speak for ....how many billions are there on this planet?
I dont like the fact you have to go to the top of the page to move to the next thread, if you are on a multiple page thread....the old one had an ikon you could click on at the bottom.
When my daughter was about 4 and in her bath, playing with her toys....as they do...I overheard her singing...."F*#@ing h#ll" F*#@ing hell....." over and over. Quite melodious it was too!
I called my wife and said to her "Did you teach her that?" We cracked up....We really had no idea where it came from....honest!
I came into the new and improved (what was wrong with the old one?) site today and thought....OMG, I'm into one of those....y'know....pay thingy sites!!! But I wasn't, so here I am.
I'm feeling my way around....if I run into you, as I feel the edges, don't take offence!!
Thanks for your positive thread....it sure provoked some good responses.
I'm from what has been described as one of the most isolated cities in the world, though I'm not sure now given the revolution in communications via the Internet. My daughter's in London and loving it....I think you will too.
I've had several of those....and someone , for a joke, who said she was from Timor Leste.....but actually from Moldova....why would you do that? She changed promptly when I explained it was inappropriate (to San Marino!).
I have no problem with people who want to live a dream, but get irritated with untruths. Makes you disbelieve everyone...I don't like that.
Just a suggestion....expand your profile and try to project what is really special about you as a person, yours could be anyones' . Photo is great...text needs to follow it and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses. Good luck!!
RE: Are you still thinking of that long lost lover?
Me neither...I'm looking forward to the next year and beyond. I have no idea who I'll be with, or even where I'll be....Though I think I'll be here in Perth and working as my funds are getting low. I really want to be with my friends in Indonesia....
What interesting times we are in at the moment....really hard to predict.
Good topic!!!
