I adore the rain. The earth always smells so fresh and clean. Walking in the woods or under the canopy of trees lining the roads makes one appreciate nature and its' wonderful changes. It's also so good for the grass, the trees and the frogs. In my cowgirl way, "it leads to slick horses, high grasses and fat cattle" which is always good. they are also a good time to curl up with a good book by the fire, to take a welcome nap with a loved one and a chance to rejuvenate the spirit.
I remember BajanBlue with such fondness and affection. We bonded over poetry, kittens, and the understanding of souls through e-mails and such. I prayed so much for her recovery. I send my prayers and thoughts to her friends and loved ones. She will be truly missed deeply. May she be welcomed into heaven with loving, open arms.
Can you stand another shoulder? If so, here is one of mine.
When I was in utero, my father was a very heavy smoker which led to my having mild asthma. He quit cold turkey as soon as he learned I had it. My maternal grandparents had been heavy smokers for years and quit cold turkey when they realized how bad their house, clothes and drapes smelled. None of them ever regretted quitting for a moment and they were really glad to learn of how much money they had saved by quitting. :-)
We had a female mayor here in Dallas a few years ago who forced the city to enforce a "No Smoking" ban in public places and restaurants. Why? Because she had been a lung cancer sufferer and survived (Which is a horrible disease and my house mate's one grandparent passed away of it several years ago). Folks went nuts over this decision and called for her head on a platter, etc... The decision held. Now this being Texas, lots of folks tend to smoke outside nowadays anyway. To have a rule/law like this one is just ridiculous. If they want to get technical- why not ban auto exhaust or enforce stricter auto inspections? How about those factories that belch out smoke? Trying to control smoke outdoors is like trying to pin down the wind. Silly and impossible. *Harrumph*
I'm not a smoker either and have no problems being around those who do and think some things just need to be let be. Smokers will do as they will and we should be more compassionate to that.
At 19, I was fast-tracked in the Officer's Training Program for the US Army. Did my time in basic and AIT then it was off to Officer's Training. I was sent to serve in the first Gulf War. I suffered a stroke and some other injuries and was medically retired at 21. I often think of the sacrifices that I and other soldiers before my time gave to us so that we may be free. Some things are indeed worth fighting for- freedom being at the top. I knew what I was getting into when I signed the dotted line as do soldiers- we know that there is a chance that we may not come back. But we take the chance for love of family, friends, colleagues and love of country. It is written upon our hearts and will always be held sacred.
Yes, we pay a very dear price, but knowing that our families, friends and loved ones are safe and free makes it worthwhile.
I humbly salute my fellow soldiers and say a prayer in remembrance of those fallen, but never, ever forgotten.
THANK You, Robbie!! I've been thinking this same thing for AGES!! Little wonder why so many are single- It's a major TURN OFF and nobody wants to hang out with someone who behaves in such a dismal manner!!
My grandfather is a retired General Construction Site Supervisor and one of my earliest memories is the scent of sawdust lingering in his workshop. The sound of the saw as it buzzed into a new creation and helping to sweep up the wood shavings. Precious memory. :-)
Would you like to take this into private e-mail, jvaski?
I'm going to level with you honestly, and I'll never be anything but honest with you....
One of my neighbors is on the board overseeing this mess and she and I have discussed this at great length. I asked her, nay pleaded, with her to see to it that ALL of history is taught. The good, the bad and yes, even the ugly. All of it needs to be taught as all of it needs to be learned. Children when given all of the facts will make up their own minds anyway.
It's perfectly clear to many of us that 8 years of Bush and Cheney caused the majority of the wreckage we're stepping through right now. It further enhances many of us to continually clarify our position that we're not going to let the ignorance and arrogance prevail
Why do you continually put your faith into Obama the Almighty? He told you he would close Gitmo. It's still open. He told you that passing the stimulus would keep unemployment under 8%. It's 9.9 %. He said he'd get rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" for the military. It's still in effect. The fact of the matter is the current regime and the Democrats had controlled the entire Federal Government for over a year and the country is no better off than it was in the Fall of 2008.
So really, this is what it's come down to? "You" against "Them"? Who precisely is "Them"? Aren't people supposed to be working together for the common good? It sure isn't working that way, now is it? Instead, people are at each others' throats. Good people at heart at each one anothers' throats. Just because someone dares to think or believe differently. Differences are what's supposed to make the world go around. Instead egos get in the way and feelings get hurt and lives are destroyed in the process. It's not what I want for people. I want them to succeed in life, to be the best and to achieve the most highest honors that they possibly can. I raise a toast to all of us, who are breaking our backs every day. If wanting the good life is such a crime.... there's more in the background that should be said. But isn't for fear of rejection and ridicule. Not a one of us is better than anyone else. Not a one.
But wanting folks to succeed matters not, for others seem to like dictating and lording it over others, little seeing themselves doing it in the process. I refuse to lower myself to wallowing in the mud and to give thoughts to those who are not open to receiving them. Civil discourse should always occur, but leave the ego and know-it-all attitude at the door please.
If one wants to talk about this economy go back to Democrats starting with Jimmy Carter insisting that people buy homes that they could never afford and three to four years ago, when annual rate mortgages adjusted up millions of people could no longer afford their homes went into default and foreclosure and this is what precipitated the current economic recession.
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae continue to be a leech on both the private sector and the government and despite warnings from economists, the "progressives" continue to be in denial and refuse to reform this institution.
In addition, two years into the current regime do you still have to go back and play the Bush card?
Fact is, *ALL* politicians suck swamp water and ruin lives whether intentionally or not in the process, no matter who is in office. Folks lose jobs, belt tightening occurs and pain runs rampant. There are no winners.
If one wants to argue about an antiquated way of thinking, take a good, hard look at Lords and serfs and see how it is working out in modern day. Each side wants something, but there is always a price to be paid.
The question to ask oneself is this: Is/Was it worth it?
Guadalupe Peak is in Van Horn, Texas which is 90 miles outside of El Paso in far West Texas. About 650 miles from Plano give or take. My folks used to drive past it all of the time on our way to visit family in Dallas.
They find us worthy, that is why they choose us. How blessed we have been. :-) I'm so very sorry for the loss of your Miri. Like you, I'd give anything to have Fishhook back as well as several others. I can only pray that we meet them at the Rainbow Bridge when our time comes to leave this plane. My heart is with you in this similar loss.
I think the cats turn it around and "own" us. Sneaky little blighters. Somehow the critters take over leaving us wondering, "How in the the heck did this happen?!" Worry not, I'm still puzzling over this one.
Barbarity exists sadly. In the words we speak cruelly to one another and in our actions to one another. I should know barbarity, my house mate's grandfather is a Holocaust survivor. He lives in our home and I have run my fingers over that tattoo that was cruelly etched into his skin, feeling the pain and the horror that he had suffered. Of 20 members of his family only one survived. ONE. Him.
It means shaking the dust off and getting itself squared away. to be less self-centered and self-righteous. Instead reach out, using mouths less and ears more. That's why we were given them in the first place. So that we can speak less and listen twice as much. There are far too many "leaders" who do not serve with servant's hearts, but choose all too often to serve themselves. Acting may be great for the eyes and to soothe egos, but genuineness always shines from the soul.
If I may and this is just an observation if you will...
Some people we encounter in life will be good, others will not be. Regardless of this, society needs to start taking better care of itself. A good measure of a person is not in how they treat their equals, but of how they treat others that they feel are their inferiors.Which one are you? Be intellectually and emotionally honest with yourself. What's your measure?
