I was in bed asleep long before you posted this, but my Goodness a lot happened overnight! Mr. Trump is now President. Prayers are with him to be a judicious and wise leader.
the U.S. has a congress of the House of Representatives and the Senate, And each of the 50 state governments has their own Congress also, The U.S. election requires a party majority based on the majority of electoral votes for the Presidential Election.
This is to insure that major urban areas where population is concentrated cannot sway the vote to the detriment of rural America, and that the states and regions of the country can be weighted more equally.
Our congress is primarily a 2 party system although not limited to 2 parties, additional political parties can place candidates on the Presidential ballot if they have enough support and follow the correct procedure to get on the ballot. Our President is guaranteed , for the most part , his 4 yrs in office. We do not hold elections in the middle of things like a Parliament does. (rather we would have an impeachment proceeding which is rare, and even then, the Vice President would rule rather than have an election). Nor do we usually have as much 3rd party representation. (if any). So our government is a little different than a Parliament. But both are representative governements.
Republicans in the U.S. tend to favor state's empowerment and favor a smaller centralized government. They also , anecdotally, are more financially conservative, favor a balanced budget and less regulation on trade. In the last 2 decade conservative Christians have become associated with the Republican Party but that is a fairly recent development. And, the both parties have changed and evolved on some level. For example regional differences, where in the 50s and 60s Southern Democrats resembled today's Republicans, and Northern Democrats were "Kennedy" Democrats where the expectation is that the Federal Gov't will protect individual rights even to the extent of protecting the minority, or individual, from local "prejudices." ......as a "brief" explanation that I place on here with caution. I ask my countrymen to not be cruel in assessment as I cannot be erudite in all detail. The interwebs can only hold so much type...lol
I checked Facebook tonight and am also proud to say that my daughter in law voted in her first US Presidential Race! She became a US citizen this past year. I would have loved to have seen her vote...how exciting!
Thanks Ladies! Good to see you. It's important to remember that in more than half the country the polls have not closed yet! But Ohio and Florida are very crucial and she is leading so far in both states. ...so exciting!
unlikely. the states receive too much federal funding to really go it alone, although some threaten it from time to time.
Always question the true motives of those who wish for the U.S to crumble, but as long as the malls stay open fewer will have time for weekend protests
well a lot that's interesting has been said and of course communication is important. At the end of the day though communicating and understanding is not always enough without agreement at some level (depending on the importance).
I have understood the other person's side, but remained unwilling to agree or to accept it as something I could live with, same with forgiveness......so I think agreement and compatibility are also important
most of us are not interested in anything that "popular" media writes or posts, Stringman. I guess I should avoid speaking for others, but I sense a mood in America of distrust of the media, particularly things sensationalist. so......
She can lie all she wants of she continues to object to the XL
....and people ask why Americans are isolationist...lol It is becoming an necessity to be. Whoever the next President is, he or she will not survive the political landscape if there is a perception that other countries matter more than our own people. That is the biggest complaint I hear.
Hello Ali, not sure I agree with that. Trump would most likely want what is best for business. I agree his international presence is not a political one, but I am sure he's well known commercially. I'd be more concerned about the Democrats moving us into conflict because Hilary is one of the Washington insiders. I like her though because I admire the way she has kept her dignity and survived this political process. There are things I like about both candidates....
my choice will be the candidate that seems most likely to uphold the Constitution and legal processes currently in place. And will use appropriate procedure to implement change.
RE: Ladies how good are you in the kitchen
OK now I am confused, what gets mushy? Sir Larry's hotdog? Throw it back in the pan!
