...was working but too loud (living in a two family house in a very quiet residential area, I think, to start to learn playing Bodhrán there, it hadn't really amused my neighbours I guess )

Lesson's are costly & takes a wile, Best way to learn is practice every day, I practice & play about 4-6 hrs every day, I can tell u how to learn, if u need more, just ask !!!

Well bjsss, if u can keep in tune, ruffly stay in the right key, u can wonder around & best to find big groups, often upto 10-20 people, carry a seat with u, sit down & join-in, once u find your feet, just go anywhere u feel ok, Music is mostly oldtimey/bluegrass,Irish/folk, lot of the bigger sessions are often played quit fast,there's not much solo, unless u'r pretty good & have a well played peace to do,there are workshops & teaching sessions,a stage performance, huge gathering of many dancers, just join-in & have a dance,people are really good & friendly, big family thing, lots of kids learning music, cost is about $40 for the 3 days I get there one day early, & get into some nice small jam session's, take a tent & with this weather we are getting wet-weather gear, & warm sleeping stuff, Good luck, come back if u need to no more, Bob.

Never to old to learn, although working full time may have its drew backs, Practice takes energy, & one mind need to be free, But if u stated with a secondhand cheap Chinese violin, cost is about $300 for new, secondhand, $120-150,start on children nursery rhymes,& just play over & over, then put a mute on it & stand-in on some festival jam session's, 6 mths & u'll be away & running, Good luck if u go there....
For those of us that like music, how many out there would love to be able to play there instrument of choice ? What instrument would u play if u could ? & how much do u really want to learn,for people living on there own, & maybe a bit lonely, the introduction into music (in most cases) be a revelation, mind blowing experience, the place music can take u in a very short time of trying to learn, will be worth the practice time, There is no other place, apart from maybe our personal life, that can drag u screening out of depression & get one mixing with like-minded people, If one chooses an instrument easy to carry, old hippies can become current hippies, & talk & chat music with a huge amount of people the world over,.......interested....?
Emigrate & buy-up cheap houses in UK & Ireland, There's no work there, so if your retired & u'r ok for cash, its an "OPPORTUNITY" of a lifetime a country of ex-stream beauty, friendly people, great food, great music, & green all-year round, what an opportunity, UK, Little quiet villages, & the way the $ is, it could be a great move, Ireland.....Land of opportunity, as long as u can pay the bills, an atmosphere to die for, one will never get another chance like this, so what do u think, shall we EMIGRATE !!! ??

Think about a Bohemian way of life,change the way u dress & living with a few chocks in the garden, & loving the people around u, sound nice !! what would your children get out of it,would u be setting-up your children to a brighter fuller outlook on life, & give them a few skills ta'boot,
Or are u guilty of setting-up your children to fail the way u live now, looking back on life, I know the answer.

People come from SA, WA, QLD, EVEN THE USA & Ireland, so its down to how much one likes to get away with music, & many that are learning to play an instrument, there are constant workshops & teachers available.

31 MARCH, that is about 4weeks away, Yarra Junction, just the other side of Lilydale Vic, get the train, then a bus. Bring a tent,
4 Day of fast/slow, Banjo, Fiddles, & lots of other instruments, u will think you are in the Appalachian Mountains of the USA, OR been dropped-off in Ireland,
This is HUGE, each year about 2,000 musicians & there family's descend on this very nice spot, & JAMMMMMMMMMMMM ,
