Go for your life.. provided you are from Tasmania or Victoria and you love perpetual winter and worse.. you would feel right at home...
Personally I like sunshine and warmth too much... Australia has almost everything UK/Ireland has without the history of course and in some cases we have more and better (beaches, skiing etc)

I can get a British passport though as my Dad was from Sotland, so it would be considerably easier for me if I wanted to.

no love this country to much, plus i don,t think the U.k and Ireland are traveling that well, in all i would say Australians are a happy lot, and would not consider emigration ,i think most people want to emigrate to Australia.
i lived in the uk for 16yrs im scottish but u can keep ur cold depressing weather rather be here in the sunshine u feel so much better when the sunshines jmo

actually no... I have spent a lot of time in Ireland/UK in the last 11 months almost as much time as in Aust.. and it is a lot cheaper for essentials there in Ireland particularly.. I always thought Meat would be horrendously expensive.. but for example mid loin lamb chops are $23kg at least here, and Euro$14kg (AUD$18Kg)..Milk is cheaper, bread is cheaper.. fuel is Euro$1.41 a litre on average in Jan 11 and that is slightly dearer but far less people own and drive cars in Dublin than in Perth for example.

Always wanted to see where my wild relatives came from and i love cold weather and small country towns, plus the Irish accent makes me melt. How much money are talking about for my new holiday house.

Went for a visit a few years back and it was just beautiful
All those quaint little villages and country roads, picture-postcard perfect.
Fell in love with Wales in particular, but of course Ireland and Scotland were gorgeous too
However, for the very reason my parents emigrated all those years back, the weather
no, I wouldn't live there but another visit would be lovely one day
