As a European and admitting not much well read on the American politics, yet fairly aware of what Obama stands for, I have to wonder why so many.....of you....seem to be against him.

Obama, the way I see it, is struggling with well fare. he is heading for the model Europe (while Sweden is heading for the American model, although for years have watched it not working) and they will never get it there.

Is it his health care model that is the nail in the eye....or what?

I'd love to know the answers to that too. I was in the states when it all started and I didn't understand then why they were so against it... Some were going nuts but didn't really seem to have a valid reason why.

Puzzled and waiting lol

I bet we will have to wait. I too have lived in the US, coming from Sweden the health care model swept me off my feet. And the school system.....everybody was complaining. They could not get why they as a leading country was so off shore, compared to us and shovelled the President to the wolves.

Now they have a president working in right direction...voila...out comes the shovel again!!!!!

Guess we will never understand...it would have been nice though...

See you soon wave

Free entreprise vs socialized medicine is the short answer.

The long answer is that the Constitution did not give the FED gov't the authority to legislate (force) a medical insurance
plan on Americans. We know that the free enterprise system because of competition is both cheaper and more efficient than a large government system.

We have 309m people here. All of Europe is 340m. Your countries are smaller in size and numbers. A socialized medical system on a large land and population failed miserably in Russia. Eventually Dr there making barely subsistant wage.

Because the health care program does not begin till 2014, we have patients slipping thru the cracks to die. Two kidney transplant patients could not find funding to the needed transplants because to fund this program, thier medicare funds had been cut back.

A AMA polls say 70% of their DRs are consider retiring, cutting back services or changing professions. AMA is the countries largest Doctor association.

I could go on....to other problems and issues......but if it starts off like this.....

To me it sounds however, the more people the more, the more income for the government in taxes to provide the healthcare?
Let us stay with that one issue. If you endure me asking?

We are fed with american documentaries, in which we watch people hiring an address in Canada to be able to get surgery done, as in Canada it is the free model. Americans pay for an address in Canada!!!!!!

In the programs it is forwarded that Americans are not prepared to pay an additional increased incometax.

I just entertianed a Canadian trained DR....that has been practicing in the US for 25 years. He will glad to debate the benefits of the two systems with you.

Canadian studies show that 18% of all Canadian heart and kidney patients find surgery procedure away from their first scheduled surgery location. This because the waiting tiem for a life saving medical procedure is to long. Many of those patient end up in the US.

But the issue is not if a procedure is scheudled.....but when the funding is not there to cover the procedure costs.....something seriously amiss.

Do you like paying more income taxes? For your free healthcare?grin

That is correct. In these times not knowing how the economy will be and even the fed's acknowledge they have not one clue when it will actually recover the more you tax a person that barely get's by as it is the more chance of them giving up and just quitting the job and then becoming a burden on the system.

How many will that take until the entire house collapses.

Obama does not only touch the healthcare. He is also talking about wellfare.

With wellfare comes taking care of people who does lose jobs. He is probably leaning at a whole new situation for the American citiziens.

If you lose your job here, you automatically get financesupport for a year to start with or until you get a new job.

It is nothing people are proud of, so the risk of making the situation permanent is not all that big.

I Feel this problem is far Prior to Obama,
With Previous Presidents Setting up their OWN Pocketbooks,
and pretend to be for the people, But could really care less,
They only want a name for themselves, and feel it started the turn in the Bush administration, Buying STOCKS in the Oil Companys , and then Making War to raise Gas Prices, to accomodate their own Stocks, ( RICHES) it becomes Greed,
I usually avoid the political threads as many have their reasons, Tho I feel the USA is the LAST to be for the people, as far as health Insurance, as this leaves less funds for them to
put into their Salary's...Or to embezzle...
USA SHOULD have Health Insurance for those who need it, Many just Die, or do without because of our Government, is like many peole in this site, ( Full of it)

We Need People, Presidents and congress who are for the People, Not for Money, Greed and to make a name for themselves...

That only My Opinion...Our Political People,Wellbarf

silentspring: The way I see it and many with me, is that you are as free in the US as you are healthy.

You are succesful, if you have a job and are able to send your children to college.

College in Sweden are free of charge....the poorest little kid has a chance.

Healthcare is almost free, you pay around dollar 15 for a visit
and medicine a maximum of dollar 200 a year, no matter how much you need.

That is freedom to me, you dare to live knowing even if I am unlucky to catch a bad heart or kidney disease, my house and my home will still be mine.

And no, the government do not tell me, where or when to eat meatballs!!!!

What is the population of your country? As was stated ours is 300+ million.

The poverty rate is Approximately 43.6 million Americans were living in poverty in 2009, up from 39.8 million in 2008.

What is the poverty rate of your country?

Now let's factor in approximately 10-30 million more illegal immigrants. They work for cash and under the table they pay no taxes and there fore do not put back into the system from which they draw.

The US has a law that states that no person shall be turned away from an emergency hospital visit due to unable to pay. Guess where these illegal immigrants get there medical care.

So any where from 52-73 million taking from the system and that does not include the retired and those that do not enter the workforce ever.

Do you see my point. it's always take take take but rarely give back.

Let me put it this way, we are being forced to get medical insurance.

What Obummer should have done first was to put regulations in place so insurance companies couldn't raise the cost of insurance without getting approval from a regulatory agency.

As soon as Obummer announced his plan for medical coverage, insurance companies started raising their prices.

I live by myself with an income of $880 every two weeks and after taxes, I'm down to roughly $780. Each month on the first, I have a $950 rent due and then I have close to $100 for electricity and internet. I had the cable for the tv cut off to give me a "few more dollars. What is left over after I cover the above I need to live such as groceries, laundry and gas for the car.

If I have to get health insurance with todays prices, I don't eat, do my laundry or go out when I want. Simple as that

The problem here is that most of the manufacturing jobs are being shipped over seas. Those are jobs that will never return and those that lost those jobs take well longer than a year to find one. Whole towns have become ghosted sue to this fact alone.
