johnaustin123: Health Care is just fine in the US without throwing the baby out with the bath water. The people who can’t afford or receive health insurance are in many cases taken care of through charity donations to Doctors and Hospitals (By the way, these donations come from the wealthy).

Anyone that has a major health problem or a stay in a Hospital will mostly receive a 40% discount on their bills and Doctors and Hospitals will accept the smallest payment plan that the patient can afford. This is cheaper than purchasing individual health insurance in many cases.

Only the ignorant does not realize this.

There are only (2) things that need to be changed in the current US Health Care System right now:

1) Make a requirement to change the current system to allow the right to purchase cheaper insurance across State lines. This will cause more competition in the insurance industry and less expensive prices to the consumer.

2) Allow and support catastrophic insurance for those that have pre-existing conditions free so that they will not be burdened with the loss of everything they own.

(These are the only steps that the Government should be involved with).
I worked for 32 years in the professional medical field. I've researched and processed more claims than I care to remember. I am not ignorant. There are many, many more facets to the overall systems than most people know.

silentspring: Oh my gosh johnaustin, you and I so clash in our respective values.

Are you actually telling me that the "robin Hood Syndrome" does not fit with the intellegent Americans??? Who are the intellegent Americans? In your opinion?

America is based upon spirituality and freedom. To begin with.

Later it came to be based upon battles, rapes and humiliation.

I do not have to go on. What you call intellegent people are also corrupt people, drugdealers, well you name it.
Principle of Capitalism---work hard, deserves it---I think I am beginning to understand what Obama is up against, if the majority of the US citiziens consider intellegence the same way you do.

I will never ever agree with you, however I understand what you say---the sad part is you will never ever agree with me, and here comes the difference between the two of us, you will probably not ever understand what I am saying either, unless you
receive a sudden wake up call.

SummerUK: I'd love to know the answers to that too. I was in the states when it all started and I didn't understand then why they were so against it... Some were going nuts but didn't really seem to have a valid reason why.Puzzled and waiting lol

The government is trying to get Americans to buy an insurance policy designed by politicians. Everyone would have to have the same policy, excuse me, I don't need maternal benefits, etc., that are included. We will have to pay for coverage we don't want or need. Would you want to be put in a position where you had to pay for things you didn't want and had no need for? I know governments are already doing this to some extent but, in this case, it would require citizens to pay for things that are not required by any way of reasoning. There is no provision in our Constitution for anything like this either, another violation of our Constitution by the present administration. The majority of Americans (last poll I saw said 70%) of Americans don't want this. Our government is supposed to do what the majority wants, not what they want. professor

silentspring: As a European and admitting not much well read on the American politics, yet fairly aware of what Obama stands for, I have to wonder why so many.....of you....seem to be against him.

Obama, the way I see it, is struggling with well fare. he is heading for the model Europe (while Sweden is heading for the American model, although for years have watched it not working) and they will never get it there.

Is it his health care model that is the nail in the eye....or what?
no...for over 200 years america has been UNlike europe...and obamas want to model america after europe IS the nail, not in the eye but more like, the coffin...roll eyes

I had a different experience when I lived in Ohio rohaan

I did not have health insurance in 2008 with an Emergency. I had to go into the Hospital. (I was injured at work 4 years earlier).

I was granted Social Security because I was no longer able to work. I depleted my savings. I was in that (18) month waiting period where you have to wait for Medicare because you are under the age.

My Hospital Bill alone came up to $35,000 dollars. I talked to the Administrators at the Hospital and Doctor's offices. My bill was paid for 100% by Charities.

I was also back in the Hospital later for a foot operation. (I was only (3) months from Medicare). They allowed me a 40% discount with only a $100 monthly payment. That is much cheaper than a car payment.

Maybe Oregon is different?

We need HEALTH care in the USA. I have pre excisting health problems. Born a diabetic, have heart problems amputated below knee on right leg. No one will sell me insurance. I have medicare and am over my head in dept for medical bills. When you are on SSI you don't get much money. I lost my house and in dept because I cann't get supplemental insurance. I never saw the discount you talked about. Charity care covers hospital cost but not doctors or medicine. We need health care. Maybe where you live the charity care is beter but it sucks in New Jersey.

It is not always the patients fault with Emergency Rooms; many times it is incompetent Doctors that send them there bacause they don't want a malpractice suit.

I had another experience in 2008. I had a loose tooth that was very painful. I went to American Dental Centers.

I'm not kidding about this. Instead of pulling the tooth, they told me that I needed to go to the Emergency Room right away because I might an infection that might go to my brain and kill me. The Doctor at the Emergency Room diagnosed a loose tooth with no infection and said "find a better Dentist".

Absolutely true.

It is about to keep eyes open and hang in there when you see something good, and stay with it for the benefit of ones great great grandchildren.

Most American Emergency Rooms are required by Law to treat you, whether you have insurance or not. You can negotiate the bill later.
