Does love matter when choosing a soul mate?

Dear Tom

Love never comes first. first impressions do, opinions do, but never love. Love is a qualification and a verb at the same time. I have not loved because I have opened a car door to let you out. I love you when it matters to me that the a closed car door represents difficulty to you.

Does love matter when choosing a soul mate?

I have yet to define love.

It may be the substance that fills novels and magazines. It may generate fortunes on speculation about it. Yet...

I can define loyalty, and care and lust and everything tied tenuously to it. Yet... I cannot define love.

So the question is: does love matter when choosing a soulmate?
