RE: What was your first car?

First car was a 95 vauxhall Combo 1.7 diesel, I loved it!! my dad gave it to me when he bought a new car, He bought it in the North cheap at an auction and it was an ex Royal mail van, it had 65,000 miles on it when he gave it to me and when I sold it it had 190,000 on it so I did 130,000 miles in it laugh It just kept soldiering on, The engine was an izuzu and they are know to go forever, The only problems i had with it was alternator, I changed it about 3 times, Those engines are known to eat alternators but i didnt mind, clutch was changed at 130,000 and that was pretty much it apart from the usual servicing which I did myself anyway, still annoyed that i sold it, A mates dad has a 94 combo with 395,000 miles on itwow so I could have kept going in it, just didnt feel safe in a vehicle with mileage like that, have some fond memories of it too, lost my virginity in the back of it, Orla was her namelaugh ah those were the times

RE: Any Car Mechanics out there

RE: what are you driving now

Is it the 2.0 diesel vitara?

at the moment I`m driving an 04 renault Kangoo 1.5dci, very economical, If I keep at 100km/h on motorway I can achieve 65 MPG, so chuffed to bits with that, its not very powerful but I dont mind, I love my vanslaugh

Also have a honda accord Euro R, shes a 2.0 DOHC 200bhp standard, plenty of power, frightens me sometimes but fuel economy is Rubbish, only achieve 20mpg if I drive like a nun but if I thrash it even less!!!!

Also have a Suzuki Marauder 125 bike, I`ve had it years now never let me down, was driving it few months back when we had great weather, dont like driving in the wet

RE: Any Car Mechanics out there

When did you last flush your coolant system?
you need to do it maybe 3 or 4 times throughout the cars lifetime because old coolant isnt as effective as new stuff but i doubt its a coolant problem, the guys are right sounds like thermostat is shotthumbs up

Government publishes Bill on Home defense

You can now use "reasonable force" to defend your home against an intruder, A burgular can now be killed by using reasonable force laugh

Personally If I caught a burgular in my flat robbing my stuff I would do serious damage to him/her regardless of this law being passed or not, This only means that you can get away with itbanana banana banana banana

RE: Celtic tiger greed amongst some ordinary Irish people?

Mainland europeans have the right attitude rent, rent and rent again, Thats all the majority of them do and it seems to work for them, You really are not buying a house for yourself its for your children to live in it and have a comfortable life after you have passed on, thats how I see it anyway
We have the highest level of home ownership in the world and I think this is deeply ingrained in our psyche to own our own land and house, this would go as far back as plantation times when irish people didnt own their own plots of land and nowadays we dont want to be part of that nightmare anymore

RE: Take the kids off welfare fraudsters in extreme cases of welfare fraud?

yeah shes getting lone parents allowance and the father of her children is giving her money every week on the sly

RE: Celtic tiger greed amongst some ordinary Irish people?

You shouldnt have to bail anybody outprofessor

I rent myself and pay through the nose for it, I know of one man who bought a house in an exclusive dublin suburb paying 1.2 million for it, has a huge mortgage, his house is now worth 500,000 euro, my world would collapse around me if I found myself in his position but alas I rented applause
