When I organised this event I did it mainly to help myself find a partner (a wife) and if other singles found someone special too then that would be great.
I was unaware there was already a singles group in Galway.
This group meets each Sunday for tea and coffee and charges for a yearly membership. They hold such things as weekends away and hill walks etc and charge for that. (I won’t mention their name on-line)
Anyhow, they showed up at our event - a group of them, lead by one large obnoxious woman. They refused to pay the 8 euro admission. My son allowed the group in to avoid any agitation as he sensed a nasty tone of voice from the lady. I was puzzled as to why someone would behave like this and put it down to “not being the full shilling”
We were unaware who they were at the time. It was only when they began questioning my son Steve and I in an aggressive tone of voice that I began to realize something was not right. Then one of our female guests recognized them and informed me they were from a singles group here in town.
They kept asking, “Who is running this, is it an American outfit, (referring to the CS cards on the tables) they kept repeating the question with anger and several times. I found it hard to get it through to her that I started this dance only as a means to get singles together and it’s not really a commercial venture.
It was obvious they were trying to disrupt the event. When they didn’t succeed they left insulting my host on the way out and tearing down our signs from the walls.
I don’t want to dwell on negativity to long, except to say, we must have been doing something right to make these people so angry.
People can be so weird - thank god I am normal, for I would hate to be like that.
In response to: “The First Great Galway Singles Hooley” begins on Sunday March 25th in the upstairs Banquet hall at Busker Brownes Galway City. It promises to be a night of friendly entertainment, with music, dancing and spot prizes.
My self and a musician friend decided to start this event in the hope it will grow into one of the many great festivals that Galway is famous for.
There is a small entry fee to cover costs and help make it a great night. The venue is particularly unique and romantic and right in the heart of the city. The hall seats 80 and is part of the ancient city walls with beautiful lighting, stonework and oak beams.
So why not come on down. Travel down on Sunday morn or Saturday, relax and stay a couple of nights - Galway Rocks!
I have reserved a special candle lit table and will personally provide VIP service for Connecting Singles members.
I'm going back there once I fix the flux capacitor in the Delereon. I'll pick up anyone who wants to go at eight Saturday! And don't say ye don't have the time to go! I'll drop ye back at quarter to eight!
