Patrick Kavanagh.

Does anyone like the poem.RAGLAN ROAD?
Tis a sample.
RAGLAND ROAD.
on RAGLAND ROAD on an Autumn day,
I saw her first & knew. That her dark hair would weave a snare That i may one day rue.I saw the danger, yet I walked Along the enchanted way, And i said let grief be a falling leaf. at dawning of the day.

RE: Heartfelt thanks to all

It can be a lonely road without companions - you'll find plenty here CL. I think this is usually a good place to make friendships because most of the poetic types tend to be shy, humble and not here for any glory. It's just a really good way to express anger, hurt and the other million emotions that broken relationships and lives can make us feel. I was lucky enough to find the love of my life here and can only wish that everyone else could do the same.
There are of course some real jokers here to brighten the days - hedistuff and goodguy2have are a hoot laugh You will make friends, the rest - well that may or may not happen, who knows?

Which poem of your OWN do you like most?

There are some poems which I've written here which I look back on from time to time to see how I constructed them - some of them still make me smile and I know I'm glad I wrote that piece of work. I just wondered did anyone else have a favourite poem that they wrote themselves and for what reason does that poem feel special to them. I don't really mean that you think it's the best poem you ever wrote - but it just means something to you.

RE: comments on poetry corner pet peeve...

Hey hun, it won't be the first time I found a piece of worn shoe leather in my mouth - and this is the place to air such worries eh? I think that's how I see someone's pet peeve - as a kind of worry, sometimes it's a really personal feeling that owes itself to the personality that feels it - sometimes it turns out that it's felt by a lot of people and who knows what can happen when this is true. I think this is a good place to air these things teddybear teddybear

Hi Hedi

I agree with much of what you say, I am pleased you posted this. I agree too with Redex, I feel it is ill mannered not to comment, I also love reading the comments.

I object to people not answering their own poems for a couple of year, then bringing them up later. thumbs up wine

Metaphysics defined

A person who studies metaphysics would be called either a metaphysicist or a metaphysician. The metaphysician attempts to clarify the fundamental notions by which people understand the world, including existence, the definition of object, space, time, causality, and possibility.

RE: What inspires you?

Writing poetry is a pleasure first of all. The urge to write comes when you least expect it, and then you never force words - they just flow, but you have to wait for inspiration, no matter how long, otherwise, without inspiration, if you're empty, you have no chance. Inspiration comes from everywhere - it is important to catch the moment and then the poem is on your plate. And, yes, patience, you have to be patient and learn much, read others' poems, classics and no classics, read and absorb, put your soul into reading, cause others know better - they can serve as guides for you. Besides, last but not least, good knowledge of language in which you write is a must in my opinion.

The Forgiven Self

To forgive..
To love..
To be human..
For with what love
shall be the judge
of our forgiving?
Shall the offence of our
brother be weighed merely
on the scales of human
justice?
Brother arraigned by brother
and interogated in the court
of human love?
To be human..
To love..
To forgive..what is that?
Shall man play the God?
Or shall man judge in
the image of himself?
Can such a thing be?
To judge..to lay the axe upon
the head of the guilty..
Is forgiveness a law
unto itself?
To love..
To be a judge..
Who shall forgive?
Who can forgive?
To be God..
To be man..
To be anything..is but
a faith..
If I look inward I condemn
myself..
Outward..and I allow another
to slay me..
To love..
To forgive..
I choose my judge..
I choose my standard..
I choose to accept who
has loved me and by that
love my standard is set..
And my brother is condemned
or set free by my judge..
To forgive..
To play upon a frail humanity,
and whip the back of my brother
for his slightest offence..is
an earthly arrogance..
But to throw my pride into the
abyss of an imperfect human
nature..is to capture the divine..
And to be divine..is to forgive~

FORGIVE ME, SISTER!

Oh Sister, since our parting’s almost near
Lend me your ear, time has come.
We may not meet again, it’s what I fear,
So you decreed in bitter anguish, so unwise.
Not knowing it you’ve cut the ties of Love
That generations past have built in tireless strife.
So for the good I’ve ever done in life
I ask for your forgiveness, be so kind!

Oh Sister, haven’t seen you much
Through all these years, it was hard, so hard.
You stayed aloof, so hot, in hateful pride,
My son’s a grown up man you wouldn’t recognize.
You’ve never tried to bridge the gap you dug,
So for the good I’ve ever done in life
I ask for your forgiveness, be so kind!

You’ve never even once looked our way
Since choice I’ve made for only Goodness’ sake.
It’s all I’ll boast about what I have done if asked
In your good favor, on your own behalf.
It’s all on what I’ll take my pride, a credit won,
Enough to face my God when I’m no more, I die.
So for the good I’ve ever done in life
I ask for your forgiveness, be so kind!
