Playtime

They were children
Who weren't suppose to know
The ways of their elders.
Young and foolish,
Boy and girl,
Playing the roles of man and woman.

Learning their lines,
Setting the stage,
To rehearse each part
Until they perfected the craft
With a child they couldn't keep
And really didn't want.

In time the offers came,
With a price that sounded right.
Their parents played salesmen,
Their state played host,
The child played barter,
And their hearts played dead.

About this poem:
Having been raised in foster care, I thought writing about it might bring a new perspective. As with most of my poetry, what it did was bring some peace of mind

Saturday Club

It's Saturday morning the excitement grows,
From the tips of my fingers to the tips of my toes,
Jump out of bed and run down the stair,
Avoiding my mother with the brush for my hair,
Bolt down the cornflakes place the bowl in the sink,
She asks me a question but I've no time to think,

I ask her to hurry she hands me a tin,
That's the admission, the price to get in,
Be it beans or soup or a quarter of tea,
That was the price, that was the fee,
A knock at the door, I know who'll that be,
Oh those were the days my posse and me.

We strolled down the main street with sixshooters in hand,
In our heads, the meanest gang in the land,
We handed over our bounty to a nice man called Joe,
In ye go lads we've got a great show,

The house lights were up, ah but then they went dim,
The stamping of feet, it made such a din,
On came the lone ranger with tonto his mate,
I thought he was magic, I thought he was great,
The cartoons that followed I loved most of all,
Till that's all folks, indeed that was all,

Its now forty years on, my the years they have flown,
Instead of a sixgun I now wield a phone,
Now as the lights dim and I sit in my seat,
I have to stop myself from stamping my feet.

Lil' Christmas tree

Lil christmas tree with lights
so bright, shine your star for
me tonight
Let mommy and daddy not
fight so much
Let them hug and kiss with
a gentle touch
Oh twinkling lights wash away
my tears
Fill this little girls stocking with
joy not fears
Lil tree I must whisper now
cause I hear shouting in the
other room
Oh twinkle twinkle come real soon
I must hurry now to my secret
room!

RADIO

I recall when I was a boy
When all alone
In my darkened room
Unable to sleep
I would feel the call
To turn the dial and watch the light
Moving the needle
On that shortwave scale
All of the World would be my friend
Voices from places so far away
Moscow and Bonn and Sofia too;
Tirana, Japan and Kazakhstan
From iciest north
To exotic isles
Talking to me about their lives
Their news and reports
And points of view
Never bored
Always something new
Hours of time
Spent listening in
Spies in numbers
Talking over the lines
Long ago in those cold war times
Now its all static
The bands are dead
Victim of the net
And stupid fools
But I remember
When the world was alive
On my Radio ...

About this poem:
I spent many hours as a boy listening to shortwave radio; this poem recalls those times, when the whole world was there for the listening, until the internet age dawned, and all the stations disappeared...victims of government short-sightedness and penny pinching. There really were spy messages-and still are-on shortwave-they are known as 'number stations'-no ID, no words at all, just numbers...

"this has no title"

Here lies a locked Door
For some to see
Only people
With knowledge of the Key

About this poem:
This I coined when all of my Best friends were stoned on "The rock", When I was about 15...And upon the rock there was a small stream that cut out a cove under it and this is where I painted this, and it is still there to this day.

life

my life began in poverty
new clothes and things were not for me
not for us the things of wealth
you wanna bike build it yourself

life was hard but we went on
we played outside sports and so on
we made good friends and stuck together
no matter what we found some pleasure

I had two parents one good one bad
and thinking back this still makes me sad
but these things moulded me you see
helped make me be the man you see

looking back I came through ok
some friends didn't I`m sorry to say
but life goes on and now I`m freer
and my aches and pains mean I`m still here

Gramma's Chair (an Easter Poem)

Life goes 'round in circles
And mine has traveled far
I can’t find my way back
For my home is in the stars
How long could love ever last
As long as my heart’s known
How I miss you sitting there
In an ol' parlor rocking chair
Next to the stone fire place
With your knitting basket
Stuffed with steins of yarn
That familair old stained
Yellowed mitten pattern….
To make green dragon mittens
With the red mouths inside
And ohhh those shiny golden eyes
How much you loved them too
Making them smile at me
A little puppet to cheer me up
How much you made me laugh
How much I miss your soft voice
Singing all those fairy tales
And funny nursery rhymes
About spiders and beanstalks
Giants and princesses
Even a woman who kisses cows
Always a happy ending
Many years have gone by
But how you are never forgotten
Nor your gentle love ever loss
Now it is I, Grams, who sits
In your old parlor chair
Smiling at your memory

About this poem:
A little nostalgia in memory and and respect of my long departed Grandmother who taught me many things at a very early age about life. Happy Easter Gram !!! I sure do wish I could find somebody like you again to make me smile. You were the kindest and greatest woman I've ever known.

Carry Me Home

Carry me home
Like a leaf in a breeze on an autumn morn
Like the sound of laughter from our youth
The familiar smell of rhubarb pie
On a cold and clammy eve in July

Carry me home
To where we would sit and chat
About everything and anything, just this and that
An inviting fire, a tune from a guitar
The whistle of a kettle never too far

Carry me home
To the place I know so well
Where memories are made
Hopes and dreams shared
No matter the distance
My heart will always be
At home, in my safe place
To be still, to be me..

SHIRLEY MY LOVE

you were the girl that I wanted so much; I'm so sorry that after the ninth grade; that we lost touch! I didn't know you loved me until I turned around on the steps of j.h.s. 109 and saw you crying as you said goodbye; and when I returned home; I had many tears in my eyes; because I loved you; but I never told you! we were so very young at the time; and I heard you went with danny r. who was real slime! I'm on my way to the top of the music charts; and I hope you will hear my songs; and we can separate the rights from the wrongs! I"ll always love you Shirley!

The hope

Aata nahi jinhe udna..
Pankh laga do unko...
Sara jaha ye unka..
Badlega dekho....

Nile umber me..
Udta hai, wo bhi...
Pankh judte hi bante..
Saitaan ki pari...

Aao pankh lagaau..
Tumhaari yaado ko..
Wo hi yad mera..
Hausla ban jate ho..tum!!
