Little Red Caboose

Hi Huggie.....I think you meant "so trucks wouldn't run into the caboose" since it was on the end of the train. Not sure if that's what you meant. BTW, the building to the left of the caboose was the office and where the agent sat to look out the window and record the identifying numbers on each box car as the train went past it.

RE: Little Red Caboose

Cool cabbose, and a great puzzle, Monte. I notice the caboose was not all red, but red and yellow. I've never seen anything but red on a caboose. The reason they were painted red was for safety, so trains wouldn't run into the caboose - which tends to make the conductor kind of cranky! LOL.

Little Red Caboose

ABC, the way of steam engines ended for my family's railroad in 1952 and other railroads soon after. Coal, which is what makes the steam, pollutes the air so the steam engine had to end. But it didn't completely end because my favorite engine is at Steamtown in Pennsylvania. My father-in-law was the president of my railroad, my father worked on the engines to keep them running and when my father-in-law died my husband became the president and I worked in the office for a few years. So you see, this railroad is dear to my heart. Thanks for chatting with me on this subject.teddybear bouquet

Monte,
You’re so right Monte; I’ve not the same experience of railroads as you. thumbs up

I’ve no personal connection to railroads. I’ve only seen those old engines in railroad museum!wink

We don’t have many diesel engines left here, since our railroads are electrified.

Little Red Caboose

ABC, without getting into a heated debate, you probably like modern technology when referring to railroads because you never worked on a railroad nor did you spend you childhood days hanging around the railroad when your father worked on the engines. When steam engines were around the smoke filled the night skyline with the blow of the horn gave me a feeling of euphoria that can't be replaced by high powered diesel engines. Railroads will always be my favorite way of transportation whether for commercial or passenger purposes.handshake

RE: Little Red Caboose

Of course it’s not a child’s wagon Monte!laugh
I used the wrong word! blushing (English is my 3rd language!)

We have had those in Sweden too. It was a real tough work being a railroader in the old times. I was thinking of the men, who build new railroads.
I'm glad we have modern technology today. Machines are doing it much faster today.thumbs up cheering

Little Red Caboose

ABC.....are you thinking it's a child's wagon? It's not. It's a railroad car. Don't let the word "car" throw you. A train is made up of boxcars, tankers, flatcars, different types of "cars" for whatever the product is. A caboose is a boxcar that has bunks, stove and toilet for the men who work long hours on the railroad. It's definitely not a "wagon" for a child. My father worked on this particular railroad for 47 years. I met my husband there and he and his father worked on it and eventually I worked on it too. Railroading is in my family. applause cheering heart wings

I wasn't very good in the begin. When you do many puzzles, you'll also improve your skills! It's a lot more entertaining doing puzzles than replying to scammers!laugh
