I am very thankful...

Hi,

I am a new blogger. Well...here goes! I recently went on a trip to Europe and I was amazed to see not only the difference in customs and behaviours ( This is obvious, of couse, but I am using this as a starting point). Often in our own countries
( we'll i am speaking for myself) we get a caught up in a vacuum or singular way of thinking and don't recognise often that people do things very differently. Particularly, going to the UK, if those people saw where I lived they would literally DIE!!! I live 200m from an picturescue beach, and the weather is almost perfect all year round. I noticed particularly in the UK and from the accounts of my close friends in Finland, people in these countries often suffer from SAD(Seasonal Affective Disorder). I used to criticise where I lived, and thought it was boring. But, also after I met some young people from Romainia in Europe and saw the hardships in their faces, I soon changed my tune. Just the point I am trying to make is be thankful for whatever freedoms you may have, the fact we dont have to fight for our lives everyday and don't have to starve is a true blessing.

Thanks for listening!

Brad

Thanks ShellOne, yes I know financing a trip overseas is unbelievably expensive! Unless, you are willing to spend it all on credit, and worry about the dabts when you get back lol. South East Asia is beautiful, and the the thai culture is so cool, it is just a shame people go to there for reasons other than the culture, much like bali (cheap merchandise and other benefits lol). Thanks alot

Brad
I am very thankful that you wrote this blog!applause

It is so important for us to appreciate all that we get to enjoy on this beautiful planet. I am going to go count my blessings now! wave wave
Hi Brad

Welcome to BlogLand.wave
You're quite right about counting your blessings. I can imagine where you live in Australia is really beautiful, as is the Mediterranean coast in Spain where I live.

I moved to Spain from London a few years ago and used to complain about the British weather, like everyone else. I now work in England so travel regularly between the two countries. To be honest, after the excessive Spanish summer heat and the freezing winters with no heating, it's like coming back to an oasis and now I'm thrilled when it rains or is cool. I have grown to love the unpredictable British weather and you won't catch me complaining anymore. It really doesn't bother me now.

The UK is not as extreme as Finland where they have long periods of light and darkness, but people can suffer from SAD in any country which experiences winter.

I'm currently in the UK and as a matter of interest, we have had nearly a week of sunshine and high temperatures and, according to the weather reports, it's been hotter than some Med countries. Do I sound like a true Brit? You bet!!!cheering

Cheers!!!teddybear
very true....I live near the beach.....but not 200m away..but its pretty awesome that I can also just walk about 100 feet and sit outside by the pool in front of the pond and just take in the sun....that would be amazing living right on the water like you do....but I also agree with the above poster, where sometimes I can appreciate the cold weather when I visit family up north in the winters....its nice to have a break from 90 degrees! hehe..
Ahhhh...Spain! Madrid, Barcelona!! I wasn't lucky enough to see it, or Portugal either. Florida, haven't you got the Bahama's too, and San Catalina?yay
Dear Brad ...a real shame that you haven't visited Italy ... here the climate is perfect, but suffering derives from ben other things ... the world isn't made only of the seasons ...Sun, sea and beach ... just do the right questions and the answers arrive ...
I wish you nice day.handshake
welcome to blogger handshake and nice to read of your first blog and share in here.

Well in my place the weather will be always same, just in this past few week we got so extreme weather specially at afternoon day. Indonesia not too far from aussie so hope someday you can also visit my country hug
Hi Brad, "Seasonal Affective Disorder".... I like that, it describes exactly how I, and I'm sure a lot of people living in the UK have had a good taste of this winter.

I am a South African, living in the UK... The UK certainly has it's advantages, but I sure miss the gorgeous weather and great outdoor life in SA, which is why I visit for 3 months every year to soak up the sun and enjoy the friendly people. Australia is also one of my favourite countries....It certainly is an eye opener to travel and see how people in different countries live... and it just makes you appreciate your own country so much more!!!
