Going Vegetarian - Day 7

OMG!!!

I really thought that the hardest part of my Vegetarian transition would be actually stop eating meat....

But guess what!!

So far and in spite of my sometimes-hard-to-deal-with carnivore desires... lol...I've (unfortunately) found out that ...the hardest part of this whole transition has to do with ...MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS...

Even calling me names because of my desition...

"Are u stupid?"
"God *insert my real name here lol* !! You're totally INSANE!!"
"What do u eat?"
"See?? tastes greaaaaaat (showing me a steak or something)"
"Why do you do this!! "

As if I was doing something really EXTREME! Im just not eating meat anymore ! lol

flirty

It's funny how people is not able to show respect for something really simple as...what I eat...

I can just Imagine how does it feel to belong to a minority !!

Oh wait a minute! I do!!

Im an hispanic single mom & vegetarian in mining - tech enviroment

grin

But truth be told ...Im still kind of surprised my own friends judge and criticize that bad!!

daydream mmm... Not that I care that much... joy giggle

poor thing :)
How true... I've never tried to convince anyone to follow my choice as well, not even my own daughter... and not just about food, but about any other life conception I might have.

Its just a matter of beliefs and choices, but how important its to respect and being respected!!

Antoniacv, If want reinforcement just go to the meat section at the supermarket . One look at the meat prices and we all think about being a vegatariean ! . . wow
Oh yeah! I have more people give me a hard time about being a vegetarian than my religion. (which is different) and they ask," Well, do you eat chicken?" Which I think belongs to the meat catagory! Or Fish. I say, "NO! Nothing that has had the breathe of God upon it!" or they tell me I must eat lots of protein...Not true....I have taken nutrition classes. I think I was deficient in Vitamin D, so take some of that. That is in fish oils and fish. Washington is not known for it's tremendous anmount of sunshine! I do eat a lot of Mexican foods though! Pinto beans, veggie enchiladas, etc. But, I also try not to eat sugars or bad chemicals like aspartame-which is in everything and will give you a MS like sickness and it is a toxin. My hot cocoa mix has Aluminum ione in it! Which will give you Alzheimers or dementia (like tylenol and Ibuprofen) and like deoderant. So, I have been onscious to all the ingredients in everything I ingest or put on my body-it's shocking what we use in our everyday life that we take for granted is safe and it is not.moping

Challenge number one today: Going to a BBQ... and just getting the salads ! laugh

So I'm ready for a bunch of questions from ppl I know aaaaaaand to be observed while I eat ...salads... laugh laugh
For me one of the most assuring moment for staying vegetarian was seeing my friend craving for meat. We were food shopping in a supermarket once the day when she was feeling really upset and perhaps even mad at something, trying to find a reason for such hard feelings in something around her.

She said: I must have some meat, I must eat someone, or I will bite on a human being next to me. For me it was apparent that her current negative emotions and aggression were directly linked to her habit of eating meat.
People always tend to criticize others eating habits when they are different from their own habits. Don´t pay any attention to them and eat whatever you want.
Someone once said, "To my friends, it won't matter, and to the ones it does matter, they don't matter."
Hazzemania - My dad came from lealea(sp?), and as a kid they would fish in a sailboat as a living in the Bay of Bothnay(sp?). That would have been back in circa 1923. I always wondered if my dad's records might be in the Lutheran church in that city. I would love to visit my dad's birthplace there. (We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming.)

Pol - Your friend could wear a "meat patch" on the arm. That way, she could turn vegitarian and still take care of the meat cravings. And any time I go to a restaurant, I order salad.
@hazze

Yeah , That's the point.. People tend to criticize ANYTHING that might be slightly different from what they're used to...

But ah well :)

cheers
