What to do after retirement

After a pretty long service I am retiring now and can not decide what to do now. Uptill now I was in a fixed schedule, to get ready in the morning, daylong hustle of official engagements, returning home in the evening tired to join family and now there will be nothing like that. Since I had been at this site for quite some espacially reading blogs of the esteemed members though I tried to comment some times and posting own blogs, but desisted due to fear of negative response. Now I thought totake suggestion of valued members, espacially from Janna, of whom I am highly impressed in wisdom and positive approach.

Thanks Wafwotam,Thanks Marlene-Hello
Hi Tiger, it depends on your personality. Some people can't live without working and get easily depressed if they stay at home so after being retired they find a way to continue working in the same or other field. Other people can't wait to get retired so they can enjoy things that they have never had the time or opportunity of, like traveling, new hobbies, writing their memories or finding out about their family tree, joining some new clubs, charity organizations, moving closer to nature and growing a garden, etc, etc.
The most important is not to feel depressed due to the change but to make it smooth or to try something new so you feel inspired and excited with a new start. Good luck! wave
Thanks Janna, this is what I was expecting from you. Hi, positive poeple always think positively and I shall certainly act on this advice. Thanks again
You will be exactly like me and I will wager that you will get tired of sitting around and you will get back to doing something again. Meanwhile, Blog until you get tired. Ignore the negative responses. Ignore the blogs you don't like so there won't be any negative thoughts. And have fun.

I love this site and I know I don't have to read or think anything bad about anyone because I do exactly what I suggested for you to do!
Thanks Ed, I exactly have the same notion and I will keep with it. Thanks Janna again.
Dear Tiger, Retirement is a wonderfull thing if you use it wisely, well alright so is anything else . I will be willing to bet that there is something you have been wanting to do but never had the time or perhaps the money to do . I also would suggest that you look into some type of voluntary work , especially one that helps children or perhaps small animals . You will never know how rewarding it is to give your most precious resource ( your time ) in helping the less fortunate among us . You also just might stumble into your real lifes work . How will you know untill you try ?. . .hug
Thanks Hamm Thanks Frank for valuable comments and suggestions. Infact the kind of job I had been doing is full time and one can not think of other things except official duty. Besides past more than 20 years of political uncertainty rather militancy in our State spoiled our life. There had been nothing like entertainment or fun. All that I may have cherished in my child/boyhood could not come due to stated reasons and I feel vacume of these things. Thanks again.
Dear Tigre, Reread the statement you just posted and stop and think about it . Pehaps you might have opened the door to a new mission in life . I can't belive that you are the only one that thinks this way and if you could search for like minded others you might just start something . Hay ! There is no harm in trying is there ?. . .cheers
cswelcome I would suggest "Tiger fishing" in the Zambezi River! laugh rolling on the floor laughing Then, I realized you're in India....tour India from The Himalayas (you may meet Ham, if you hurry!); wait; edit: you don't have to hurry - he's marrying someone in Nepal......and work your way down to Shri Lanka. Lots to see...I stopped at Madras in the 90's - will complete next time I'm around. handshake beer

This is mail I received from a friend regarding blog and my reply in response to that

Hi Tiger,

I don't mean to bother you but after reading your blog I wanted to see if you are about my age, because I get the same feelings since I retired. I hear what you say! Take care :)

Hi erick42
Hi erick42. Thanks for the mail. In fact I didn’t wanted anybody to bother me with reference to the subject. However I may inform you that I have attained 58 years of age and have put in 38 years of service in a fixed manner i.e. office & home and now I am going to retire from Government service within 4/5 days. I had a feeling that what to do now after coming out of the routine and this was the reason I went to members on CS through blog to seek suggestions, where I am a member for above more than a year. I may mention here that I have a loving family that comprise my wife, my son his wife and a cute granddaughter of above two and even if I have no external engagements, they are sufficient to me for rest of the life. Going to the members on CS is only to express myself as I have no friend circle and obviously I cannot share any invisible feelings with my family or kith and kin that all have elderly regard for me. Good luck, take care
@ Tiger : Hi! Have you think to do the hobby you like? If you like social thing, you can join charity. If you like doing business, you can have your own shop. If you like gardening, you can do gardening and plant something beautiful and useful. JMO {smile} Good luck! wine
Thanks Summertan for courtsy.
Friends I finally retired after 38 years of service in police deptt on June 30 but I am unable to
describe it as my luck or anything else I got engaged in an identical job in Insurance sector and now I am no more free to think what to do after retirement. scold
