A Political Dilemma

I liken the DPJ, Japan's major political party to a father who promised his child a toy come salary time. But alas, the father was dismissed from his job and the promised wasn't realized. The DPJ promised a lot of well meaning changes but backed out and wasn't able to implement some. Understandably because of more pressing issue like the incident in Fukushima. I just can't understand why some sectors keep on whining because of some shelved plans. I just wish the opposition would rally behind whoever is in power now so as to avoid what the other more politically aware people refer to as revolving door politics. I have this love-hate feeling towards Japan for my almost 20 yrs of residence but I wish for its political stability and its regain of world's number 2 position. Oh, how I wish indeed!blues

I don't know about this subject you speak of, but I am curious if you have an opinion about the "fishing" islands and the disputed ownership of them between Japan and China.
I very much admire the Japanese people & their culture - I hope they rise above petty politics ....wine handshake
Nice writing.
ohhh Tatami, all politicians are great at promisses, u shud get used to it and dont take as true everything they say. I think Japan is just fine (from what i see/reas on cnn) they never make unrealistic plans, they always show people a very true picture of whats happening.
Tatami u will be shocked to know how people live now eg. in Italy or Greece, that is a real nightmare, those people are actually asking their gods to send them politicians similar to urssigh
Who do you think owns the islands?
@Roxana, thanks for giving a political view from other countries. Yes as it has happened even in my own home country, new schools, roads were built whenever new politician rose in power. And I believe too that the longer in power, the more corrupt it goes. But there are cases when someone in power do receive money and goods even without asking for them. Of course notwithstanding the inner motive that goes for those moves. Will we consider receiving them as sign of corruption? Life as it is is a win win relationship. There is no, I think, pure charity. If not for hidden favors, it's for the fame being aligned with somebody who is of the same belief and ideals and who happens to be in power. Much as I do want to, I just can't be a part of their election as I'm not a citizen and not allowed to vote. Although yrs ago there was a move to let permanent residents vote.
@Snoopy, I'm sorry but I'm not well-informed on the history of those islands. What I know is, China has the history of fishing and drilling within the seas of other nation. If one country, uses the 300 mi limit and the agitator believes they are on international waters as they profound a lesser limit then problem would arise. There is a parallel story that happened in my country very many yrs ago. There was a time when the US military base was in Subic. The govt was in total dilemma when the renewal was set or everytime a fleet arrived as the Filipino militants were too much againts it. Then nature took its own "judgement". A volcano erupted totally wiping the bases and its vicinity. I might say God has a way of settling things up. I'm not hoping for the same thing. But who owns the islands? If the island isn't fertile nor a rich source of whatever, will they be claimed? Who owns them? Each one has their own version of history. I simply don't know who. Right now I don't have the time to research as I'm still adjusting to my new job. Been a month on this press job. bouquet
