Friend
My definition of FriendI created this when i was a school counselor and had to think of how to explain to children how to choose a friend. There was no curriculum that i could find, so I used the following.
In short a friend is someone who is safe to be around, fair and predictable.
Let me explain safe : When you are around this person, you feel safe. They don't endanger themselves or you.
No risking behavior, no addictive behavior at all.
Fair : A friend plays by the rule. He/she doesn't lie, cheat or steal. Not from you not from anyone. If you notice he/she does any of these to others then he/she won't make a good friend.
predictable : When you make agreements with a friend, they keep the agreement, you can count on them. They don't engage in any unpredictable behavior.
These are the things we all look for when we are looking for a friend.

but for teaching children it seems like a pretty good set of rules or guidlines .
It makes sense to me. Now all we have to do is apply this in our lives and if it doesn't work out we just move on with no regrets!
