Dying for a cigarette...

I've lost count of the people I know that have been diagnosed with cancer, then quit smoking, then died not long after that. Really, whats the point in quiting? I think the shock of quiting cold turkey is actualy speeding up the inevitable.

My late husband died because of one.
once they find out they have got cancer , theres not much hope for more life .....

the sad thing is ....they new the risk of smoking would kill them , and when the cancer comes , they think they can live a few days longer ....
Bless his soul...Ccincycomfort

There are three here that carried on, they get sick as, then get better, then have another smoke, then get sick as again and so on, its been eighteen years since the doctor told them, they haven't got long. So it makes me wonder... wave
Virgo, If I told you, you were going to die and soon, you wouldn't believe it, so you would carry on, but because a doctor tells you the same thing, it increases the pressure and you begin to feel really down and out, so you end up physical and emomotionly sick to the point where you wanna die...wave

My late husband passed away from lung cancer in 2007 and he was known as a chain smoker.

He had been told several times by his doctor that if he didn't quit it wouldn't had long to live.He was in a lot of pain and losing a lot of weight. He reminded me of a war prisoner.
One of my friends passed on with the same thing, they found him a lungs, but it was too big. I think its about time we should be putting our own blood relatives body parts in a freezer of sometype for such occassions. wave
I quit smoking twelve years ago because my uncle Mike died from Lung cancer...don't start Ru...get some nicotine patches...they help...help conversing
Ru , are you looking to justify your smoking habit , or are you seeking a way out ......

I can only expect to die one day in the near future ....I smoked for 26 years , and 16 years of that was smoking roll your own ...and allready , I'm older than my other brothers who died from smoking and my only older brother has days or weeks left to live ...and they all said smoking dosent kill people ...

I stopped smoking 14 years ago now , and my doctor says I have a 15 % chance of having a heart attack in the next 3 years ...

It could be in the gentics of a person why some survive longer and some don't, I don't encourage smoking, thats why I sell single smokes for a arm and a leg.wave
The best thing for being smoker is they never gets old because they die young

Having givin up last year following a cancer diagnosis I certainly hope you are wrong :)

Sounds like you are looking for reasons not to quit RU. I know because I did it for years, oh I like it, I need it, sure people who have never smoked die young, some people who smoke live to be old, I need it, it helps me cope.......all the stuff we tell ourselves.

All I can say is apart from the health risks I am much happier as a non smoker, it doesnt rule my life anymore.
Migsy, only the good die young, the rest, just grow old..wave

Glatlol, for your sake, I know I am wrong...:)
Smokes are going up every six months here till 2020, then they plan to remove them from Nz altogether. So quiting for many is going to be high on many smokers minds. Hypnosis might be in high demand by then...wave
