Jesus Sermon on the Mount

Jesus exemplifies moral perfection by proclaiming and living by the Seremon on the Mount.

Even Mahatma Gandhi, the famous Hindu, was deeply impressed with the life of Jesus and particlarly his Sermon on the Mount. In it and elsewhere Jesus teaches many of the great moral principles known to humankind.

The Golden Rule

Jesus says, "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you"(Matt.7:12). He views this as a summary of the Ten Commandments, which he also affirms, as he does the entire Old Testament (Matt.5:17). Even outside of Christianity, the Golden Rule is a widely recognized moral principle.

Do Not Judge Others

Jesus says, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you (Matt.7:1-2).

Although it is not always understood in it's original context, surveys show that this is now the most widely known verse in America. One thing is universal: few people want to be judged by others, particuly if the judgement is not fair. Jesus is not saying that we should never judge the beliefs and actions of others. Nor is he promoting the new tolerance that affirms that all ideas and beliefs are equally valid and true and no one should criticize another person's beliefs. Jesus does judge actions and beliefs of others (Matt.6:5,16; 11:20-24), but here he is saying that we should not judge falsely or hypocritically (Matt.7:3-5).

Love Your Enemies

Although Jesus traces this principle from the Old Testament, many Jews of his day (Matt.5:43-47), along with many Muslims and others, clearly are not practicing this valuable moral principle. In contrast, the Quran exhorts Muslims, "Take not Jews and Christians for friends. They are friends of one another. He among you who takes them for friends is (one) of them"(Sura 5:51). Indeed, the Quran urges Muslims to kill non-Muslims, declaring: "Those who believe do battle for the cause of Allah; and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of idols. so fight the minions of the devil"(Sura 4:76).

Do Not Retaliate

In his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declares, "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."(Matt. 5:38-39). Here is a exemplary moral principle that is widely admired but rarely practiced. Nonetheless, Jesus both teaches and practices it (Isa.50:6).

Don't be a Hypocrite

Jesus spends a lot of time rebuking them (Matt.23). He declares, You hypocrite, first take the plank in your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye (Matt.7:5). The fact is that virtually no one likes a hypocrite, and most people at least give lip service to this standard set forth by Jesus.

Don't Lust or Hate in your Heart

In this principle Jesus takes the generally understood moral principles to another level. Most persons have not murdered, but most have hated others in their heart. Not everyone has commited an act of adultery, but who is there who has not lusted? By elevating the understanding to include the intent behind even commonly understood moral laws (Matt.5:22,28), Jesus takes morality to a much higher level.

Be Merciful

All the Beatitudes are part of Jesus's ethic, but blessed are the merciful" (Matt.5:7) is a blessing on a group of people who meet a high and hard standard. As anyone who has tried knows, it is not easy to be merciful to an enemy or undeserving person. Indeed, popular atheist Ayn Rand teaches exactly the opposite: "To help a man who has no virtues, to help him on the ground of his suffering as such, to accept his fault, his need, as a claim-is to accept the mortgage of a zero on your values (Ayn Rand, For the New Intellectual,180).

Virgo, it says "...do unto others...as you would have others do unto you.

In other words, treat others as you want to be treated.
This is an awesome, simply awesome blog, S. Wow! thumbs up applause

I don't know all of what Ayn Rand embraces. Much of her beliefs make a lot of sense, however, she is human and so imperfect/ incomplete.

And yes, that which you say of the koran is true.
so if they do horrible acts on you , you are to let them .......just like when the romans came to Israel and took a ten foot deep layer of top soil off the entire country and left it barren and stoney .......wave
This is all a lode of rubbish, Jesus this and Jesus that, all just old fables , I would rather believe in nothing then to believe in the double standards set in this so called bible of yours, which has been revised so many times etc etc, and you can't even produce this or find this Jesus person for anyone, in the here and now ! The only thing I do believe in is that from dust ye came to dust you'll go, and the so called heaven or hell well we're living in it today in the present which isn't hard to workout, and for you the war mungering race maybe you should practice what you preach !blah blah blah blah blah blah violin violin violin sheep sheep sheep
My Dear Serendity,

A pleasant day to you. A very good sharing you've got here from the " Holy Scriptures "
It was perfectly been said...
"Do not Judge or you will be judged." " The Same measure you use; it will be measured to you."

Well, let's face it. We are now at the last chapter of the " Holy Scriptures " .... The Revelation!
The seven Angels with seven trumpets was here already.
I just don't have any idea of when the last trumpet will be blew upon the earth.
The 24 elders who sit on their thrones infront of God threw themselves face downward and worshiped God, saying:

"Lord God Almighty, the one who is and who was!
We thank you that you have taken your great power and have begun to rule!
The heathen were filled with rage, because the time for your anger has come, the time for the dead to be judged.
The time has come to reward your servants, the prophets, and all your people, all who have reverence for you, great and small alike. The time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth! "

Thanks for sharing here the Good Sermons of Christ. Some will absorbed it; some will not, because their heart and mind was so hunger of power and earthly desires... That is a human species, a mortal one.

Hugs & Prayers,
Crystal
And always it isn't clear to me why in an old precept one is written, in the new testament another is written, Also it isn't clear to me why we have to he prays to Jesus after all not god.dunno dunno

Mate, this stuff is good for those who believe in it.

In the context of whom Jesus was speaking to when he gave these ideals, it was to people who professed to believe in him and who followed him looking for an easier life.

He did not say this to the general populace of people who did not believe in him.

So while it is good to talk about these things, it needs to be done in context and in understanding of your potential audience.

I suppose you like to initiate discussion and perhaps debate about this stuff, and if so, then good on ya.

Me personally, I think a dating site is more or less about dating, not preaching, unless your preaching has to do with dating.....
Hello Ummka. Jesus is not only the Son of God. Jesus is God. This is why we pray to God in Jesus name.wave
Halv0, there are many topics of discussion posted here that have nothing in the least to do with dating. If you are going to object to a post about God based on your opinion that it has nothing to do with dating, then I shall look forward to your posts on other blogs informing the OP that his/her blog is not date-worthy. grin

JESUS, I AM THANKFUL

Jesus, I am thankful to you, for you comfort my soul with your presence in my life. You calm my fears and soothe my aching heart. I am thankful to you, dear Jesus, for leading me in your paths of righteousness, for your name's sake.

Jesus, I am thankful that you grant me the peace I sorely need. I am thankful to you, Lord Jesus, for the unlimited number of opportunities I have to pray in your name.

Jesus, I am thankful that you taught me the Lord's Prayer. Most of all, Jesus, I am thankful to you for loving me so much that you died for me even though I will never deserve it. Thank you for your life, Jesus. I will praise your name forever and follow you eternally.

I thank you, Lord Jesus.

A PRAYER OF GUIDANCE

Dear Lord,

We pray this day for you to enlighten our hearts to your truth and your way. Guide us to make the right and just choices in our lives. Teach us, we beseech you, to walk along side of you and to listen for your wonderful words of hope, love and fellowship. Guide us down the narrow way that is your righteous path. Show us the way to love others as you first loved us. Protect us from all harm and shield us from all iniquities. We praise you from the depths of our hearts and our souls. We will forever give you thanks for your many blessings. We pray this through your gracious Son, Jesus Christ. AMEN.

I was chosen to follow in HIS footsteps on this journey of faith. We all were chosen to do the same.
Even though HE set each of our compasses on alternate routes, we all will end up at the same location---at the foot of the cross--- for all things work to the glory of God.
Our paths will be as individual as we are ourselves. Heartache, joy, love and remorse will accompany us all on our own pilgrimages.
Some will suffer more than others. Some will endure less suffering. We will not be able to understand or comprehend any of it.

We must forge on and accept it. Will we choose to follow or abandon the journey?
Only we can make that determination. If we choose to follow the path, each step we take will be a blessing from God.
Even our paths through the dark valleys, which will test our faith, will be blessed from above. God will never forsake us if we will follow HIS lead.

Do we have the faith to continue what we have started? I know I do. Others wonder why I still have it.
I have to continually tell myself that there must be something better for me around the bend.
If I were to ever quit this journey, I would never know what’s waiting for me at the end.
I know I have slipped and fallen back several times, but with God’s mercy, forgiveness and grace, I can journey onward.
Don’t we owe it to ourselves to, at least, attempt it? God will never take us ‘to’ something that HE won’t take us ‘through’.

As we venture on, God places people in our midst that will either make a profound difference on us, or we on them.
It may be a future spouse, a friend, or even a mentor who may help us along the way. We should be able to do for others what God does for us.
On this journey, let us project what Christ is in us to those who may not know HIM. Being for HIM will continually bless us as we follow in HIS footsteps.

After all, HE has chosen us to fulfill a commitment of faith unto HIM.
Rich rewards await us as we gather together in HIS presence at the end of our faith journey.
The cross marks the spot where blessings flow. I pray I see you there.

There are more documents, earlier documents, and better copied documents, and more eyewitnesses, for the historical reliability of the New Testament then for any other book in the ancient world.

In light of the objective facts, I do not have enough faith to be a skeptic.rolling on the floor laughing

You rather believe in nothing, rather than something? That's your choice. But I rather beleve in something (reality) as oppose to nothing (non-reality).grin

Thanks for presence on my blog. I do not understand the first part of your question, regarding Old and New Testament precepts? Perhaps, if you gave me an example, maybe I can understand what you mean. As to the second part of your question, I can answer you.

In regards, to praying to Jesus... Jesus requested prayer in his name: "And I will do whatever you ask in my name...You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it"(John 14:13-14),"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you"(John 15:7).

Secondly, Jesus claimed to be Messiah-God. Even the Quran recongnizes that Jesus was the Messiah (sura 5:17, 75). But the Old Testament teaches that the coming Messiah would be God Himself.

So when Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, he was also claiming to be God. For example, the prophet Isaiah calls the Messiah "Mighty God" (Isaiah 9:6).

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given. And the goverment will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6). "Mighty God," and "Everlasting Father" are titles of deity.

The psalmist wrote of the Messiah, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever" (Psalm 45:6; Hebrews 1:8)

Jesus claimed to be the Messiah to the woman at the well (John 4:25-26), and under oath before the high priest (Mark 14:61,62).

There is no doubt that in claiming to be the Messiah, Jesus also claimed to be God (Matthew 26:54; Luke 24:27).

As to the link you refered me to, it seems not to work. Lol.

My blogs are for both believers and non-believers. This particular blog was tailered more towards Christians, though non-Christians are free to comment. And from what I read from the comments, my partners in faith, certainly responded to the message!applause

As chame1eon correctly pointed out, there are many discussions posted on the blogs, that have nothing to do with dating, yet why aern't you on their blogs preaching to them, about what you personally believe? Why just my blog?

Jesus taught that Christians are salt and light in this world (Matt. 5:13-16). Christ did not say to be salt and light everywhere "except" on dating sites?

God bless!

I could tell the moment that I saw him,
He was nothing but the troublemaking kind
His hair was much too long and his motley group of friends
Had nothing but rebellion on their minds.
He's rejected the establishment completely
And I know for sure He's never held a job.
He just goes from town to town
Stirring up the young folks
'Til they're nothing but a disrespectful mob.
And I know for sure He's never joined the army
And served His country like we all have done.
He'd rather wear His sandals and His flowers
While others wage the war that must be won.
They arrested Him last week and found Him guilty
Aand sentenced Him to die but that's no great loss.
Friday they will take Him to a place called Calvary
And hang that troublemaker to a cross.
