What is Humanism?

Humanism is an approach to life based on reason and common humanity that recognise moral values are properly founded on human nature and experience. Decisions are based on the available evidence and on ones assessment of the outcomes of his/her actions, not on any dogma, superstition or sacred text.

@ MalteseGuy1982 - yay .. I scored 93% ..... yay

..... grin cheers
However, a Secular Humanist understands no one can judge him after death because there is no life after death, it's all myth and there is only the here and now. There is no God working miracles, so if they are allowed in your own family will starve and not survive any period of extended fall out. The choice of the Atheist is of course considered and immediately rejected as being really naive. The neighbor knows your family has food and water. When you send him on his way, he will probably find his child. Then he will have two mouths to feed and worry about. Currently he has no tools or weapons with him. Within the week when his wife and child begins to complain about being hungry, he will probably acquire both tools and weapons, maybe also tell other survivors you have a stockpile of food and water you are keeping them from and soon an armed mob with tools will be blasting open the doors of your shelter. So the Secular Humanist making a rational assessment of the situation pulls out his pistol and shoots them both right there on the spot and debates internally whether or not to dress out and butcher their corpses as extra meat for his family before going inside and sealing the bunker doors or should he just conceal the bodies under some of the house rubble and let their moldering corpses, if ever discovered be considered to be just two more people killed by the blast.
BTW, I score only 83% so maybe there is hope for me. laugh
@ Ken - It is my belief that nature wastes nothing, everything is made up of energy and energy cannot be destroyed, therefore because our souls are also made up of energy they will be used again in another life cycle..... how you behave and treat others in this life will depend on what kind of life you will have in the next..... conversing

..... grin cheers
Why on earth would what we do in this life cycle have any relationship to what happens in the next cycle of energy/data? Doesn't that imply some kind of order which itself requires a Supreme Being to make the rules? I would much prefer believing it is all random and what you do in this life time will have zero impact on whether or not you a) come back in a different body, or b) have impact on what kind of life you come back into. I believe in blind chance and luck.
@ Ken - I do believe that energy has a kind of DNA signiture/memory attached to it so that water energy can become steam/gas or ice but it can't become fire for example, our soul energy can only come back in another person and not a plant or insect..... this signiture/memory also also stores information about each person that we become with it's own built-in balance set to universal law not man's law, after it has reached it's highest atribute and it's time is finished here on Earth it goes back into the Universal Matrix.....

Define Universal Matrix any wich way you please but I seem to have my connection with the Pleiades star system.... conversing

@ fallen_wolf - blues .. Maybe it means that you are not the alpha female in your pack..... woof.... dunno

.... grin hug wine
Ken...what you do in a situation like that depends on who you are as a person and how much you care about other people. Definitely not on your religion or lack of it. I will let them in as it is better to keep potential meat alive and fresh for when you need it later. devil
@hans : fewh i thought it means im a half animal laugh
@ fallen_wolf - Well...... you are a mammal I would think and a mammal belongs to the animal kingdom..... conversing .. laugh rolling on the floor laughing

I base my definition of Humanism on Human culture and what is that Humans do and need, and this is filled with dogma, superstition and sacred text those being the downsides of education, intuition and wise words.

And Humanism is not universal as it is relative. The worldview of the Vietnamese peasant is as validly Humanist as my views as the European White.

However, most Humanists worship cults of science and reason and to do so is decidedly inhuman. Intellect, rationalism and reason are tools that different cultures(and individuals)use in different ways based upon the yearning of the cultural soul which varies from land to land and evolves over time from the stages of birth to death. And whilst each stage has its hallmarks - all young culture-souls are marked by strong religiosity and patriarchy and all late-stage souls are marked by decadence, liberalism, materialism and cults of science; consider the parallels between The Fall of Rome and the Modern world as there are many, but this still doesn't mean that the modern Westerner understands the soul and worldviews of the last Romans despite our common decadency, values and shared sense of indifference to the future.

My Humanism is a Conservative Humanism basically and recognises Humans as non-rational. And I'm a classic0la world-improver which scarcely exists these days as most world-improvers are Liberals and Marxists. Humanism is not an absolute way for Humanity nor is it some next stage of evolution as it is seen by certain White-Liberal Humanists. My Humanism is based on what Humans do, what humans have always done, and how Human civilisations diverge from each other but retian similarity. There is definitely not one common way for all Humanity. My Humanism is not imperialism by another name.
