Drummers who are also lead singers

Drummers aren't usually known for being lead singers in their respective bands. However there are some notable exceptions.

I always preferred Mickey's voice over Davey's. In later years, after Davey passed, somehow it sounded like he was a major stumbling block in the Monkees ever reuniting...but the Prefab Four was never a priority in rock and roll history, apparently.

Phil Collins, yep. Keith Moon, well that's news to me... Don Hendly? Unquestionably. Karen Carpenter? Of course.

The monkee's were never a serious band they were just an american marketing idea to tap into the rolling Stones and Beatles fan Base frustrated

Keith Moon, Peter Chris and Ringo Star were most certainly not lead singers of their band.

To clarify. these drummers may have been lead vocalist on one or two of their band's songs, but I'd make sure there was reasonable distance between you and Roger Daltrey when you tell him Keith Moon was lead singer of The Who.

I'll have to look into Levon Helm. I've been seriously deprived of quality music, having subsisted on pop radio for much of my musical exposure.

Point taken with Keith Moon and Peter Kriss. I kinda question Ringo as a lead singer, too, although he could carry a tune better than most drummers.

Funny, Mark Farner was the prime lead singer for Grand Funk, but Don Brewer sang Were An American Band. Brewer by the way is also the drummer for Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band.
