I've seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood a couple of times now and I'm sure I missed plenty of Easter eggs. It got me thinking about the influence that movies and television had on my childhood and those thoughts eventually brought me back to an old itch.

I thought it had been scratched back in 1988 with the movie They Live. The movie is about a guy who finds a box filled with sunglasses that, when worn, unmask an alternate reality filled with aliens...or something like that.

It was close, but not quite it. I found that They Live was based on a story called 8 o'clock in the morning.

The faint memory I had was a closing scene shot through the lense of special glasses that allowed the wearer to see aliens disguised as humans. At first I thought They Live might have been a remake, but it was not.

I started to question my ability to recall with much accuracy anything from my childhood and was prepared to blame marijuana use as a teen for the dissociation. I'm reminded of why eyewitness testimony is so unreliable...but my mania was renewed after seeing the new Tarantino film.

I went hunting once again--determined to get satisfaction by finding what I was looking for, or burying it altogether under the realization that my mind, since 1970 or so, had been reduced to producing about as meaningful synapse as a bowl of day-old guacamole.

Eureka! Don't open that bag of tortilla chips just yet! I fk'n found it! And the scene is pretty much how I remember it. After something like 40 years this itch has finally been scratched!

It was a TV movie called The Love War. This is the final scene. The "money shot" @ about 10 mins.

I decided to start working on my screenplay earlier. That means a LOT of research in correct NYPD codes, locations of certain things in the screenplay and various names to make up.

So far, I have written 3 full pages. The story is about a terrorist attack in New York City, which I know have been shown SO many times, but I really believe I have a story worth telling. I just need to figure out a name for the story. So far, it's unnamed.

I have just finished the main attack sequence. Now I just need to work out the rest of the story

I have watched a TON of movies, and I have begun to get a somewhat decent understanding on how to craft the perfect story. You need something that captures. Like a well crafted horror story, or a thrilling action story. Given that my favorite genre of films is disaster films, I might go ahead and try to make a rough outline, with a log line that really intrigues.

The problem is, that most disasters have been pummeled to death. Skyscraper disaster movies: Skyscraper and The Towering Inferno. Extreme disaster movies: Independence day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, Deep Impact, San Andreas. Ship disaster movies: Poseidon, Titanic.

I need to come up with a story, that is completely unique. Something that hasn't been done before. I could write a space disaster movie, but Gravity has that covered.

I'm gonna go into thinking mode, and write some stuff down. Who knows, maybe I will write something that will get made into a movie at some point, but that's not my main objective at the moment. I just want to start writing, and write a few complete movies. After that, we'll see what happens.

I went for many years without a TV in the bedroom. One woman I dated insisted on it as she couldn't fall asleep without some distraction. She brought over a small screen that had a timer. If I recall, her favorite channel was Oxygen. TV shows for and about women. The late night format was stories about women who were abused by the entire world, not to mention disgruntled ex's.
Oh, I mentioned it.
I'm a believer that when you sleep your subconscious is still absorbing your surroundings. That said, a few times I jumped out of my sleep to hear a woman shrieking when a man holding a knife was approaching... Sorry, no more TV when I'm sleeping.
That forced her to buy a clock radio that also played the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the shore! I was glad when that relationship was over... and take your stinkin' TV with you.
Fast forward 15 years. There is a TV in the bedroom now. It doesn't get used very often. In the past 3 months, a few evening news reports and on Sunday mornings, it's seen some Kung Fu martial arts and one Chinese comedy with English subtitles. That's it. No more chic channel.

I never really got the hype about Stranger Things, so I decided not to take part in viewing the show.

Now, however, I have decided to give it a chance, to see what everyone is raving on about. So, was it worth it?

The first season is about a young boy, who disappears. It's then up to his mother, a police chief, and his friends to confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

Season 1 has a number of different subplots, that all merge at the end, and it's a pretty well-crafted series. It's VERY slow, but the first season is all about character building. The season has it all: Horror, suspense, action, humor and emotion. It's an extremely impressive first season, so I will definitely begin season 2 right away.

Let's hope this is more fast-paced, because if I have to see ONE more interrogation, so help me... That is the only reason why this first season gets an 8/10. Not bad but not perfect!

I was told about a movie called Point Blank, and it was hyped up to be a fun action movie, so I decided to see if it was worth the hype.

The movie, which is a Netflix production, stars Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie, two people who have worked together in the MCU. The story is extremely straight forward: To save his pregnant wife, an emergency room nurse teams up with an injured murder suspect in a race against time, rival criminals and renegade cops.

I enjoyed myself watching it, and I caught myself laughing a lot during some of the bits. It has everything you could ask for in an action thriller: Fights, shootouts, explosions, intense bits and the ever present "Oh man, who will survive at the end of it?"

Besides Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie, the movie stars Marcia G. Harden, Christian Cooke, Teyonah Parris, Boris McGiver and Markice Moore.

The task of controlling all those actors, and bringing a film to life, has fallen to Joe Lynch, who has directed tv series, low-budget horror movies and a Faith No More music video.

I really liked this movie a lot, and it is a fun hour and a half of entertainment.

Rating: 7/10

Point Blank streams NOW on Netflix!

The new tv show from Showtime about Roger Ailes, the Chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Studios is on HBO Nordic, so I decided to give it a view. The show stars Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes, and it depicts his entire history of Fox News. From the humble beginnings to the 9/11 attacks and all the way up to his death.

Keeping bias out of this review, I enjoyed watching the story unfold. I love Russell's portrayal of Roger, and I find it interesting to see, how Fox grew from a, let's be honest, amateur studio to the giant powerhouse we see today.

Nothing is left out. Every scandal. Every mistake. Every low and every high are in the show. Episode 1 starts in 1995, and it depicts several key points in Fox News, among those how Hannity was hired. The drama slowly unfolds, and it also shows how much of a mess Fox was in the beginning.

Episode 2 starts out on the morning of 9/11, where we see a fast-thinking Roger, doing what he did best - break the news to the people. The episode also showed the negative effect of that. Breaking the wrong, and often unsubstantiated news, like the time when we were told that Saddam Hussein had WMD's, and then Geraldo Rivera openly lied about him being in Tora Bora.

I look forward to the next episode, on the 14th of july.

So far, I give this series a 7/10. Room for improvement, but it doesn't need much to be a great show!

A few months ago, I watched the first season of Designated Survivor. I liked it, but I noted that the season ended on a flat note. I decided to knock out the remaining two seasons these past few days, and here is what I think of it: I loved it!

I really didn't think I would, but something about it really tickled my funny bone. Kiefer Sutherland is back as President Kirkman, as is Adan Canto as Aaron Shore, Kal Penn as Seth Wright, Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, Maggie Q as Hannah Wells and LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter.

New faces include Kim Raver as Andrea Frost, a brilliant tech genius, Paulo Costanzo as Lyor Boone, a hypochondriac and somewhat awkward fellow, Julie White as Lorraine Zimmer, a brash and no-nonsense political strategist, Anthony Edwards as Mars Harper, the new Chief of Staff who is extremely by the book and Geoff Pierson as Cornelius Moss, the 44th President of the United States.

Season 2 starts off with the continued look for Patrick Lloyd, the bomber responsible for blowing up the Capitol. On top of that, they also have to fend off terror plots, political smears, intrigues and good old fashioned office-rumors.

Season 3 is much more violent, and you can tell that Netflix picked it up, since the language is far more rough and non-kid friendly, not that the show is that anyway. In typical Netflix fashion, they push the envelope regarding sex and language, and I don't mind that at all. It's refreshing to see a show like that.

We also get to deal with an incredible amount of losses in the two seasons. Some are more vicious and heart wrenching than others.

All in all, I liked these last two seasons of the show. I have yet to hear anything about a season 4, but it will happen, I think.

Season 2: 7/10
Season 3: 8/10

I have finished Brightburn a few minutes ago, and it's amazing!

The story is pretty straight forward: What if Superman was evil instead of good?

The movie is produced by James Gunn, who is known from making Marvel movies, and it is a classic, no-nonsense, suspenseful horror film, with a lot of brutal imagery.

I will not go into a lot of detail here, because that will ruin the movie. Understand, though, that this isn't your classic feel-good movie, and it is super dark and depressing throughout the entirety.

Jackson A. Dunn plays Brandon Breyer, the kid known as Brightburn. He gives a fantasticaly creepy performance, and he is definitely someone you should look out for in the future. His parents, Tori and Kyle Breyer are played by Elizabeth Banks and David Denman respectively.

To give you an example on how brutal this film is, here is a scene from the movie



As you can see, it's a properly brutal movie, and if you are squeamish, then you need to give this a pass. If you are up for an amazing horror movie, with great practical effects, then watch Brightburn. I really enjoyed watching it!

9/10!

I look forward to the sequel!

One of my Facebook-buddies wrote me, and said that I would be expecting a call from a producer on Denmark's biggest tv station. They are doing a segment on Slipknot, and I am the admin of the largest Danish Slipknot group. My buddy is going as well, so I will not be alone. Anyway, they want to invite me on their show, to explain why I love Slipknot so much. So tomorrow morning, at 6.30 am, I will be on screens nationwide, trying not to make a fool of myself!

I have done it once before, been on tv that is, so it's going to be a cakewalk. It's gonna be great talking Slipknot with a friend, and to educate/chat all things metal on NATIONAL tv on a wednesday morning :D
