Absolutely boring, I realize, but of great interest to me:
I was at an aquarium in Antwerpen yesterday and saw the most amazing fish. The ones I saw were about 3 inches long maximum and hovered in a hole in some rock. They just peeked out and when you made a move towards the tank, would back into the hole leaving only their eyes visible. When you moved away, they would slowly emerge protruding about half a body length out of the hole, only to retreat again upon seeing you. They were really really cute I have to say.
I watched them for about 30 minutes and they don't seem to swim about in the tank, they just hang in their little 'hood.
I did not take note of the name of the fish. It is driving me crazy as I want to know more about them. I googled, but to no avail. Does anyone have any idea of what fish type this could be. They are not blennies.

'Hood Fish............. They don't venture far from their neighborhood and tend to stick together.
I bet you were playing a game with them while watching, slowly approaching the tank then backing off to see if you could catch them out of their "house".....
yubba: They spend all their time outside...................but because you are so Beautiful and Dazzle them they have to go inside to hide their eyes!!
Nah! I think they were just scared of the fish faces I was making at them through the tank and the added whup whup fishy sounds I do so well.
Oh Imma!!!...now you made me laugh.....the visual!!....
immanuelle: Thank God it was dark at the aquarium. I must have looked a bloody fool, a full grown woman playing peek-a-boo with a fish for a half hour.
I have been looking and if there were 5 or 10 of them a little apart and they appeared to be covered in breadcrumbs then these are the fish fingers..................the main part of the fish is hidden inside the rocks!!

I am such a tool....After laughing aloud at your response, I got to thinking...hmmm, maybe he is not joking, so I googled it. This is what I saw.
