LOCKPORT, Man. - Ice jamming on the Red River north of Winnipeg flooded a couple dozen homes Wednesday and was threatening more, leaving officials and residents preparing for the worst.

Emergency measures co-ordinator Paul Guyader said another 30 or 40 houses had been evacuated, while the province said hundreds more people had been put on alert.

"The jam is still there and the water is still coming up, so we're making preparations for in the neighbourhood of hundreds of homes we're going to have to try and protect or evacuate," he said.

Every area has something. It just depends on what you're willing to live with.
