Liberal or Conservative ( Archived) (6)

I found this on yahoo where someone asked these questions. It's obvious there's been alot of heated decussions on this site about politics just thought I'd post these questions here.

What would happen if we stopped using the words ' Liberal' and ' Conservative' and had to re-think the way we decribe politics ? Is there really only two ways to think about it ? What is the value in boiling complex decisions down into a simple dichotomies ? Is to much energy spent on attacking the other side instead of promoting solutions that benefit us all ?

Is there really that much of a difference ?
If both sides worked together we might accomplish something in this country.

I know it's natural for humanity to group dichotomize each other. We're very fond of labels.

There are only large differences between the far right and far left. I'm kinda partial to the middle of the road types but the US seems to be unable to elect those people and the party(s) leadership do not support them either. It's almost as though it's an all or none mindset

The left likes to fight with the right. The right will disagree with the left. The moderate / middle will argue with both the left and the right.

No one really tries to solve the issues and come up with solutions anymore. In the USA all of them are out fund raising 12 months of the year. Both parties can't agree on anything even if it seems logical.

Your definition above is a normal response I see from the moderate middle to attack the left and the right.

Liberal =The People's dependency on the goverment to provide a quality of life.

Conservative = just the opposite......the goverment's dependancy on the People for a quality of life.

There are clear lines drawn and factions that will not ever cross those lines.

It's more than name calling.....it goes to the core.

Little respect can be given to those who wishwash back and forth in search of their own self preservation.

I don't know if I understand that statement, it seems a bit too fanatical. I won't vote for the person I feel isn't qualified to run anything more than their thunb up their own butt, just because of party affiliation.laugh

Mind you I don't see any difference between any of the political prties, I think they're all the same, just under a different banner.roll eyes

Left and right are more about moral and social beliefs rather than political and governence ideology. True, it plays some part, but not nearly as much as we are being led to believe. The left/right false paradigm is a tool used by politicians to keep us devided and squabbling amongst ourselves over what are really non political issues and keeps us from seeing the REAL problem....the politician. A friend of mine in BC canada, the leader of the BC Refederation party and candidate for premeier uses the following anaolgy: You can think of it as a bull fight. The matador is the politician, we the voters are the bull and the matador's cape is the list of false issues.
True political ideology in this country isn't rocket science. It is about the constitution. This is the blue print for our federal government. The constitution is neither right nor left, it is neither liberal or conservative. It is what it is and it says what it says. If we follow it, we cannot go wrong. The problems in this country don't stem from flaws in our constitution, they stem from not following it.
We have been foolishly led to believe that it is a complex legal document requiring law degreas and years of college to understand and interpret, that notion is UTTER NONSENSE. It is roughly 3 pages long and written at todays 8th grade level, the average divorce decrea is far more comlicated.
When we begin to pierce the veil of the whole left/right illusion, we begin to understand all of this and all of the issues we sepnt time fighting over are suddenly realized as irelevent.
