wixomwizard: I rarely go to bars, when I do it is generally on a whim. If I go at all, it is with other friends for dinner or perhaps it is football season and I want to watch a collegiate game on a bigger scene than what I have at home.
I no longer go there to meet women. I think I have pretty much grown out of that lifestyle.

I just know that I will want to take in some nightlife while on vacation...the whole atmosphere, you know? People out walking along the water, lines of cafes and bars and clubs with lots of activity. I won't want to sit in my hotel room and watch t.v., that's for sure. And so I WILL go in where I choose to, enjoy a drink or two, people watch, and listen to the music. I'll work on getting over the awkward feeling.

As a direct answer to the op....
.....depends on the aura the woman gives.....if she is making it obvious that she is there for company I ignore totally.....
....if she is there and seemingly enjoying the scene.....I would check out....possibly eye contact first...and take it form there...
...a simple smile would speak volumes......
....if I am in a group I would probably ask her to join us....
...if I am alone myself...would probably introduce myself and ask if she would mind my joining her table.....

I go to bars alone and prefer it that way. I feel obligated to make converssation if I have a date or am otherwise out with a friend. I like to get smashed and ppl watch. Cuz I'm really just there for the alcohol.

I don't feel uncomfortable if in a bar alone. Of course, I am careful about which bars I would enter alone.

Well I'm not going to tell someone what they should or shouldn't do... but the OP ask men, what we thought to ourselves when we seen a woman in a bar by themself, and I give my honest anwser, it doesn't mean it's a fact for all women, it is just my opinion...

I think it's a bit odd,as a guy,I PREFER TO go with a few friends when I GO OUT...
