A famous General went to see a renowned Zen master and asked him: "Buddhism mentions the six realms. Have you seen any? Bring me to see Hell then."
The Zen master replied: "Who are you?”
To which the general proudly answered: "I am the general of the emperor of China. "
" What?! Such a stupid person like you can be a general?" The Zen Master shot back.
Hearing this, the general who was now fuming with anger, drew out his sword and
shouted: “I kill you!"
The Zen Master calmly said: “I have fulfilled your request, General. You are now in the Hell Realm."
The general was embarrassed and immediately dropped his sword to the floor and apologized profusely to the Zen master.
“You are now seeing the realm of Heaven as well." The Zen master smiled.

I will say just my reply and then not reply again.
I believe Heaven and Hell are where we go when we die after a sleep until the rapture happens. Some to heaven some to hell,it will be for eternity.This life we have on earth is just a journey. My Christian opinion.

I believe in a heaven, not sure what it is, being raised as Mormon they have very specific ideas of heaven, some I like, some just seem like an exclusive members only club. I have my own visions of what heaven are but they solely mine and no more based on fact than what is written in any religious book. Hell on the other hand not so sure that even exists.

And then someone told the zen master that he also was both a stupid AND naive person for not realizing that the whole thing was set up and that he was on Candid Camera..!

I think we all have a "foretaste" of heaven and hell on Earth. Some people's lives are such a "hell" they seek a way to end them. I think people experience more suffering and sorrow here than the glorious joy of a "heaven", although happiness is also all around us.
In 1 Corinthians 2:9 we are told that "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him", so I believe we probably have no real idea of what Heaven will be like. Hopefully we will never know the unseen terrors of an eternal Hell.

A good definition of Hell I once heard was 'being separated from the love of God'
I have turned away my heart and soul from religion, but I see the strength people gain from faith and I am envious but unrepentant............. whatever other people believe I cannot love a God who deliberately created suffering so he can play mind games with His creation.

I have heard that definition too, and I totally understand how you feel.
I struggle with why God allows suffering and other issues, but I am open to answers. Sometimes we just don't understand something but we need not be unrepentant because we are troubled...just acknowledge our not understanding. If there is a God He knows how we struggle.
BTW, I have tried living without God and it is dark indeed. Clearly it isn't that way for everyone but that was my experience. I know what it is both ways and I choose to believe because for me it is the best way.
