mnowsa: well, i don't really understand, bro as to why can't we rely more on the goodness of our societies? why we need to be suspicious about the world around us so much so that we would be willing to take another life to save ours! It is the mindset of "killing" another human being that i find more disturbing than the "act" as horrible as it could be itself.
well two things...
1st... those of us who carry are NOT looking to kill people, even if/when a gun is fired, the goal is NOT to kill but to STOP... meaning that if i have to fire my gun it is to make the guy stop doing whatever he is doing... in other words his actions direct my reactions, if i point the gun and he gives up, then no shots are fired, if he comes at me i fire until he stops coming..
2nd... it would be great if there were no need for guns or violence, but unfortunately that is not the reality... much like a seatbelt, airbag or a fire extinguisher, i carry a gun in case i need it and much like those other safety devices, most of us rarely need it... but just as accidents and fires happen, bad people do strike from time to time and it is smart to be prepared... tho i warn people that owning a gun alone is not being prepared, you have to be mentally ready to do what you must and you also have to be proficient so that should the time come when you have to use it, you will do so properly... i too have had to use mine and its not something to be taken lightly !!!
oranges2apples: ??????? maybe those are the bad guys and guns aren't the problem. we can launch projectiles, and smash, kick ,stab, smother,.... the list goes on. guns are used for many other thing besides killing " inocent" people. how many criminals rapeing your mother or sister get struck by lightning?
there is an underlying problem here with your assumption with regard to bad guys/criminals. you assume that you can rid society of criminals by killing them and you actually think that you, as an individual, are entitled to take a life. Now on hindsight 20/20, would you agree if your brother turns out to be a criminal/bad guy and your neighbor is ready to kill him?

actually i was quoteing your assumtion of people thinking they are gods. and i haven't read anything about vigulanties stalking criminals . so were are you really coming from?? i don't have to worry about my brother, because we were raised with respect. respect for ourselves, other people, other peoples things, and maybe most importantly respect for guns and there proper uses.so i don't rteally worry about my family getting shot.
It is ironic how many murders are committed in the most restrictive of gun states compared to those least restrictive. People that take their right to carry probably more serious to not wave a weapon around than someone who does it illegally. I have carried for years and of the tens of thousands of people I have been around at those times, less than a handful have ever known I was carrying.
To assume that everyone that carries has a god like mentality is assuming a lot. If you have never carried nor have never had a carry license, you don't know the first thing about it. It is a responsibility the vast majority take seriously.
