This morning in Louisville Kentucky, as a home owner was asleep in his bed.... was awaken by someone breaking into his house. The home owner pulled out a handgun fearing for his life. He was confronted by the intruder when the intruder pulled out a gun and shot at the home owner. The home owner returned fire killing the intruder. The gun that the intruder was carrying was found to be one that was stolen from the home owners car earlier in the year.
Very Ironic.... ya think?
Well, later it was found out that the intruder was the home owners 20 year old grandson.
Charges are pending, but are likely to be dropped against the home owner.
One less criminal on the street.... Thank GOD and our forefathers for getting the paperwork right.

I've heard of an incident in Maine where a woman was awakened during the night. She walked into her livingroom to find a man climbing thru the window. She was carrying a gun and fired at the intruder killing him. When she shot him, he fell outside the house. When the police arrived, they put him inside to save on paperwork

im a subscriber to the theory that "no tresspassing allowed in my property. trespassers will be shot, survivers will be shot again"
im also a believer in the concept of "reaching and touching someone"
Stuff can be replaced. If someone want's my junk I'm not going to kill them over it. I will put them in a world of hurt if need be in stopping them but I won't kill anyone over any material goods.
If they are intent on harming me or someone else though they made a bad choice. It is my duty to take what ever action needed to keep them from acting on that bad choice.
As far as the use of deadly force goes Massad Ayoob's "In The Gravest Extreme" is a very good and sobering read.
I have said this before and will be glad to say it again. When will the fools learn. You make choices in life, if you choose to break into a mans home or threaten a persons life, there are consquences for your action....May he rest in peace.
I know what you mean, but then again most criminals are't even on the streets! They're protected on their private islands or yachts or in their mansions and luxury villas in the South of France...(that is, when they're not in their Lear jets or Rolls Royces)....AND they'd never even dream of breaking into someone's house (unless of course that "someone" was able to expose some of the things they were up to, and THEN they'd simply send their dogs round to do the shooting...). But fair enough though, gotta keep the streets clean...

well if someone breaks into my house... while im there... material things are not really my main concern.....
protecting myself and my family on the other hand....
and considering some of those i've met may actually hold a grudge, safety is a reasonable concern

The Intruder from what was said on the news shot at the home owner first.... deadly force was justified.
I agree, anyone breaking in will be shot, PERIOD. They have no reason to be in my house in the first place. I will NOT wait until they threaten me, if they are in my house they are already a threat. They are not there for cookies and ice cream. So lets say you don't kill them, they get out in 6 months and they are back on the street and back to break into your house again or worse. I say unload the clip on them, also, I have never heard of a repeat offender coming back from the grave.

That's an excellent book. Read that and others. I forget now who wrote it, as well as the title of the book, but there was another man who wrote a book in which he described criminals as "other-human". He states well that killing an armed criminal is not the same as killing another law-abiding human, for they don't think and feel the same as us. They will kill us without thinking twice. Therefore, not human, but "other-human".
I was raised that "dead men don't tell lies", and if you're going to shoot someone, shoot to kill. And yes, Ray, if they fall out of the window, drag them back in.
Yes, if someone comes into my home armed, I am going to presume that if I don't shoot them first, they will shoot me. After all, they knowingly took that risk. Why else would they be in my house with a gun?
And I'm sorry for the gentleman in the OP, how horrible it must have been to discover that the armed intruder who shot at him and forced him to shoot to kill was his own grandson. I feel for that family.

Definitely shoot to kill. In some instances where a burglar was shot but not killed, they have come back with lawsuits against the homeowner and won.
