amahlala: I taught all of my sons to be gentlemen and perform little courtesies as they go through their day....you would be amazed at how many have thanked them for doing so and how many women have asked my sons out! It works; everyone likes being cherished if even for a moment!

shootingstar77: I'll take the bait.

It is only a selfish act , if you are making someone happy to receive something back.

If you are doing it out of pure intentions, with no expectations, then why worry?

Quite right.......... but being nice does make me feel good - and I certainly don't expect anything in return (though a smile instead of a scowl is welcome!)

I'm really nor worried about a car door or having a chair pulled out for me. I prefer that those things aren't done to be honest.

Holding doors open is something I do for people and it's nice when a man does that for you..nicer if he guides you into somewhere with a hand gently touching your lower back (not too low boys! laugh)

One guy I went out with always used to let a door go once he had walked through it and when walking in front of me so yeah..I do appreciate the door thing! applause

nibblejc: Do men still do things like opening the car door, pulling out a chair for you at dinner, waiting for you to pass through the doorway first......?

Do women still appreciate things like this? Does it still have value?

not many men do but i think women over the years have confused men....women wanted all the equality and its good that women are not treated as second class citizens but along with it came the loss of the little nice things and thats a shame.... we do need the small but meaningfull things back wine

I am a bit of a curious mixture of old fashioned and modern-ish.
I like to believe im indipendant minded and yet many of those things I was taught to be good habits when I was little remain.
Please and thank you, excuse me and pardon.Opening doors without over elabourating it and even walking on the right side of the road with a partner is what I do.
But I can do all that while talking about the filthiest things you can imagin.
But again, only if I think it is appropriate!
dunno

I haven't been out in such a long time, least of it ona date with a gentleman so I really don't know if guys are behaving like gentlemen. I appreciate and like these details.

One thing I know for sure: My 15 y/o boy, living solo with three women (mom, 1 older sister, 1 younger sister) he has to be the gentleman. A gentleman is taught not born. I taught my son to open doors for me if we were going to restaurants and wait until all of us girls were inside...he waits for us to sit at the table, before he takes his own seat. He opens the garage door when I come home at night, and always, always asks: How was work today mom?

True, at 15 he is starting to rebel, specially around his sisters, but I keep telling him, that girls watch the way boys are with their sisters and their moms...and if they are not nice to the women in his life, how can she expect him to be nice to her? wink

So, I'm grooming my son to be a good son and brother, a good man, a good boyfriend, a good husband and eventually a great father...

Well, I think equality sucks!

Men and women are complimentary - not equal.

It's impossible to have a 50/50 relationship...........much easier to just admit she is the boss and do as you're told if you really want a long and loving relationship! thumbs up

Some men in my age group have no idea what these things are. I am pretty sure they died with my grandparents generation and maybe a little remained in my parents generation (but def. not much).
Its really sad...

Also it can be a regional thing..most southern men don't blink when it comes to opening doors...for anyone.

I live by the doors of perception.

And i will never stop opening doors for women.

I'm from the old guard.
If women dont like it.Beat it
SUE me.
I rather die with my honor, then in the shame of fanatic feminism.

Virgio, you were born on the wrong side of the planet.
Women love it here.laugh
