hi all. just looking for your opinions please. ive to leave my car back to the garage tomorrow evening as part of a trade in. getting my new car on thursday.

i crashed into the back of a bmw 2 weeks ago. its all been sorted through the insurance. i had to get new bonnet, light, grill and number plate. the bumper was painted and the front of the car looks like new again. there was no internal damage done at all. just wondering do i say anything. i originally planned not to say anything as its all new parts on it now and i dont want the trade in amount to decrease when there is no internal damage. its just that the new number plate has the name of the garage that fixed the car and the back one is the original one with the name of the garage i got the car in.

its wrecking my head as im afraid in case they cop it and ring the garage that fixed the car to see why they put the new number plate on. everybody that i have asked about this has told me to say nothing. dont know whether to say that the number plate cracked and so i got a new one.

Honesty is always the best policy. How would you like it if you were the buyer of that car, and later found it had been crashed and had never been told about it? This is something which shouldn't even arise if you claim to be an honest person.

By all means tell the garage that it was just superficial damage that was caused and only new parts were used in the repair. If it's found out afterwards, and proven, which would be easy to do, the garage could in fact sue you for a fraudulent act.

If the crash repairs were not done in a main dealers garage then the paintwork while it looks perfect to the untrained eye can sometimes be a shade out Salesmen are trained to look out for this and when you trade in your car and you sign the order form you have stated that your car has never been crashed. If your trade in is then subsequently crashed and brought back to the garage and the previous crash repairs are discovered then the garage is perfectly within their rights to sue you as you have signed a legal document stated otherwise. It happened at a garage I know

DUBLINGUY1973: Yeah the same thing happened to me. I'm sure not all salesmen know each other but most of them can spot if a car has had repairs done on it even if there was a perfect job done on it.

He tapped his knuckles off the font side panel the whole way along the side and told me it had been repairedlaugh
any garage worth their salt would run checks on a car to see its historydunno

All depends on how old the car is though. When I traded in my old car for the one I have now he never even started the engine. I have an honest face. innocent

thanks very much for yere opinions. i got it fixed in a different garage as it was an AXA approved garage. its all new opel parts. typical of me to crash it just before i trade it in rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing i was actually wondering that myself about whether they could sue me if they found out so maybe i am better off being honest. just hope i dont have to pay more for the trade in especially when i lost my no claims bonus and will have to pay a high premium for the next few years.

Cost of a new car you should'nt cost you more if you crash and trade in your old one against it. I think you;re stressing over nothing if that helps you!?!

Listen, stop worrying. As long as the car has been repaired to manufacturer's standards, it doesn't matter whose number plate is on it. Just relax. The garage is more interested in keeping you as a customer buying a new car than they are in the state of the trade in. Their assessment of the value of your car comes out of a book, not from looking at the car. There is a lot more financial juggling goes on in the motor trade than I would care to admit. RELAX

Good pointthumbs up

Plus the fact that new cars are not exactly selling like hot cakes at the moment so they are not going to stitch you up as it might jeopardise the sale of the new car.
