Elite: My younger brother of 22 is living with his father and is claiming job seekers BENEFIT and he received a letter today saying he must go to the local social welfare office on the 22nd for means testing for job seekers ALLOWANCE
Having just spoken to him on the phone he told me he went to citizens advice today and was told his allowance could be cut to as low as 40 euro
Do the expect him to live on fresh air
He pays 80 euro rent to my dad and has other bills, It would make more sense for him to rent a room in some house with others and he will get the full 200 allowance. Seems to me they would rather see him and my father split and live seperately

my son is being means tested because i work part time...they asked him was he planing on handing up any of his money to me ..when i told her ..of course he is..you havnt seen him eat...they stoped him 4 euro....dunno go figure...confused

A society is measured by the way it treats the vunerable and weak living within it. It seems ironic that it was the financiers who caused the proplem and are bailed out. While the victims who have lost their jobs due to wreaklessness from on high are being vicimized. Twas ever thuscrying

Very well said but what would you propose to do are we on the brink off revolution. If so can we do it by peaceful protest.

There are plenty of protests going on throughout Ireland.....

Do you think we are a nation of people who sit at home and vent our anger instead of joining the small mass of people trying to publically protest about our woes...

Yea but the Irish culture has always been in a state of flux and flow. That's what for me gives it its greatness and depth. This ressession is only tempory, its a fact of economic cycles. It will improve again and it will dip again. Don't loose the greatness and depth, through a tempory dip...

Partiro: Its hard to know

Personally I would not trust a government that got us into this mess in the first place!!!!

I had a member from labour at my door tonight, saying Europe is the best thing Ireland has ever seen... They brought in companies, build roads etc....

So what the hell has the Government been doing with all this supposed extra cash flow these last few years during the Celtic Tiger dunno dunno dunno

Oh that will be long gone already. It happened in Scotland over 20 years ago long before Lisbon, Neice or Mastericht. Worse still, it financed mass unemployment and allowed Thatcher to break the working man, his communities, his unions and his industry.

But I don't think Lisbon will make that much difference. I think we're already in debt up to our necks. I have a feeling that Ireland is now only Independant in name. Look how worried Cowan and his crew looked after we voted No the last time.

There will be a hook involving a solution to the negative equity problem to get us all on side. Never underestimate these guys. They create a problem and then offer you the only solution as they screw us all over...just like one of these nasty adware programs on the internet.

And there's absolutely nothing we can do. It no longer makes a difference who we vote for and after we accept Lisbon, we will never have another referendum again.
