Jan1305: It´s true, there are many sad and lonely people, particularly the elderly.

Unfortunately these people are unlikely to be out and about for the rest of us to actually meet.

The best those of us who are blessed with friends and good health can do, is to keep an eye out for elderly neighbours or people we may know who are hiding away in their homes due to depression or other illness.

And, to smile at people in the street, on the bus etc, on our way to work or to the shops. I do, and I usually receive a smile in return.

It may just make a difference to somebody.

Oh Janwave

You are soooo right... I was sent to work in the high/low care nursing home for two weeks ( in my work org) and saw it all first hand...
Lonely people with not too many rellies visiting...

Wishing you wellteddybear

I agree. There's a nursing home directly behind my home and every day I go up there to keep some of the elderly company who live there and never have anyone who visits them.

I believe that some people don't want to be contacted or have friends. They choose to be miserable...closed up away from the rest of the world. Could be a mental thing. But like HJ mentioned, people choose how they want to feel.
I just try to be nice, give a nice wave or gesture and a smile. These little things go a lot further than you might think.
cool

not always just that easy my man. some people are very shy and afraid of rejection. i happen to be one of those people, half the time you go out to try to meet someone their probably taken or will frown down on you. or at least thats what you believe and so you never try. some of us just cant get the courage to try. i know i really cant, so most people will convert to something where they know people who are also alone and hope to find someone.

You are right, so many sad and lonely people out here.

Being a member of this site cures the the sadnesss, because there are so many people here who have hearts of gold and all the best intentions, but unfortunately they cannot, in most cases cure the lonliness.

Human contact is what we all desire... the touch, the feel, the being together, and the moments of quiteness, where you are both in tune with each other, but being long distance cures nothing.

If only we could all get together in the same room !!

I was out walking the other week and I saw this sad looking person sitting outside a cafe shop and I just spoke a few words and smiled, but he just stared at me lol, then I walked on, but when I returned that way on the way home, I looked at him and he waved with a big smile on his face! I was happy and so content in my heart...it does make a difference!

:)

Of course I know not all people are like that, many don't want to be disturbed at all! I guess it's just the world is...
