you are suppose to sing the happy birthday song in you head three tmes, of course if you want people to look at you funny sing out loud, while washing you hands that is the time required to wash your hands properly as taught in hygiene classes to little ones
But you didn't have that information in your introductory post. There are so many of these polls such as online, and in magazines, or opinion poll companies calling households.
The link to the whole story was in the intro. It seemed to be a study that was more scientific than some and I just wanted to share it. With the flu season getting ready to whack us again and the new H1N1 added in we need all the help we can get this year.

Yes, people think that a two second rinse with barely any soap, will do the trick!

I like that idea. I say the alphabet slowly. I do know my alphabet now after many years of hand washing.

I have just travelled to the other side of the globe and back, with many, many flights, railway station/airport public toilets and so on in those four weeks. I just about always finished off after washing my hands, with using antibacterial soap. So, fortunately, I only developed a mild throat bug which made itself known on my return and now all but gone.
I would really encourage people not to rely just on hand washing, coz it doesn't destroy viruses and most other bacteria. You should the critters left behind even after thorough hand washing.
So if you are really concerned about the N!HI virus etc, antibacterial washes will go a long way to take care of them, though of-course you cannot stop airborn bugs, except in your home and workplace, there are sprays you can use, for hard surfaces, and in the air. Small purse sized bottles are available everywhere.
Oh, and take lots of garlic capsules and echinacea, nature's very powerful antibiotic agents.

Congrats on avoiding all the nasties you could have picked up. Good job.
I agree with your advice on using hand sanitizers. They are great to have in our arsenals for the fight against germs.
Shewolf55: Hand-washing is the cheapest way of controlling disease but less than one-third of men and two-thirds of women wash their hands with soap after going to the toilet, a British study by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine showed.
I work for a large IT company and I used to work in a large computer data center, just picture NASA control center, to give you some idea. We shared the same computers in that data center and I noticed the men in the bathroom would not wash after finishing....I was in shock..total shock!!! You would think professionals in a professional environment with professional attire would be clean....NO...NO..pigs...slobs...disgusting swine!!
I quickly developed my own sanitizing wipes by buying baby wipes and adding alcohol to the container..works great. I soon began to wipe everything down. I also ended up the healthier one and was out sick the least!!
For years now..when going to a public men's room for number 1 I use my foot and knuckles to touch anything.

People don't know how important it is to sanitize things.
Shewolf55: Well it seems that what you did worked great for you. You look so good for your age. Now I know how you did it.
Do you think it will work for me?
absolutely....but now they have those waterless sanitizing wipes...they didn't have those back then!! But I still use my own wipes I don't trust no stinking dry wipes!!
NAKEDMUDPEOPLE: People don't know how important it is to sanitize things.
No, I was really in shock!! Now I am nuts about pouring chips and nuts in a small cup..rather than dig my hands into public bags and bowls....people think I am nuts...but people are not clean!!

Oh, just lovely! The only place in life that is sacred is the bathroom.
