Some time ago a guy had asked me to meet him. He had a foto in his profile,looking ok. When I arrived at the place we were supposed to meet, I could not find him. Suddenly a totally unknown face appeared in front of me-askeing if I was his date. I was so shocked for a moment, because his appearance was so different from the picture-later I understood that the picture was taken 25 years ago.The good thing was, that he was so exited about the meeeting that he did not understand how shocked I was by his appearance. Still we became very good friends, he is a very intelligent, very nice guy. And later I thought, if I had seen him on a foto as he looks now-maybe I wouldn't have gone to the meeting at all and so I would have never have the chance to get to know this very special person.

Hallo Ven...Es tut mir sehr leid. Ich bin schlimm. Ich komme and und ich gehe. I like to keep my photo up when I am actively engaging in the forums, otherwise I take it down. It's kind of like being at a party. If I am there, you can see me, if I'm not, you can't.
I guess I am odd that way. Loved the replies by all. Even though I would like to say that I am not influenced by looks, I'd be lying.

I go with gut feel with most people. If I like the look, like the twinkle in the eye, like the smile, then I want to know the person (platonic or otherwise). If I get a creepy feel, then I don't. I assume (of course) that profiles are what they say they are. I can't live my happy little rose-coloured bubble life if I am second-guessing whether someone is being real or not. Truth will always emerge I think. Besides which, if I am hoping for a romantic relationship, I would never engage in conversation with someone who lives more than a short car ride away from me...
I have met 5 people in real life from CS and they were exactly as they said they were and as their pictures showed. I still have a good friendship with 2 and am happy happy happy, stupid happy with one.
Still, love to be able to create a mental picture of the people I am chatting with on the forums. Adds a special dimension.

Well tempting as it is to satisfy your curiosity,it is impossible at the moment anyway.See I got photo,s,but due to personal circumstances which I won,t go into I post from a cybercaff.Got no mainline at home,no internet,nothing.In part this is due to my lifestyle,hardly ever at home.Slowly,ever so slowly trying to put my life back together(doesn,t help when every time I get that lil ole sandcastle a few inches high a certain bully comes along and kicks it right back down).
Whatever,soon as I,m sorted out with my own pc,a fixed line and the net I,ll be on the case,promise.

Delete yes, but it doesn't change the fact that they are locals viewing those of us with photos. I don't waste time 'wondering' though. It's just there and then. Unlike you, I do look up their profiles sometimes. Then delete.
