I suspect the only reason Tony Abbott has recieved so much media attention over the years is because he's a cartoonist's delite to draw.

amelie13: Interesting comments from everyone. I agree that many politicians act like children sometimes - the leadership spill coverage was astounding. I know 12 year olds who can resolve their differences with others better than politicians seem to be able to.

To have an effective government you have to have an effective opposition.
I'm not that sure we have either. Mind you if nothing else the opposition certainly make the government look good.
I used to watch question time on TV, it was always good for a laugh, now I just find it too depressing.
I think a change of government occasionally is a good thing. The libs are good on economics but forget the people and labour is a bit the opposite. The problem is all the others are basically single platform parties who would really stuff things up if given the reigns.

My amendments to the constitution are:
Removal of parliamentary privilege when talking about private citizens.
Secret ballot on all votes.
All sessions of parliament must be attended by all sitting members.

and last
Ratifying the 1934 succession referendum.

Yep, I'd agree with all of this. I'm not familiar with the 1934 succession referendum, I guess I was daydreaming when they mentioned it in school. Can you explain a little about it? I tried googling it but just got Australian National library location codes.

amelie13: How do you think he's going so far? Do you like him?

Personally, I can't get the sight of him in his speedos out of my head. It's not a shot I wanted in my mental roladex. Does a man who has time to get abs have our countries best interests at heart? lol.
Don’t worry we have a prime minister by the name of Kevin with a funny laugh (yeyks) and we are all still alive for the time being. laugh

Actually not sure if it was 1934 or 1932 but there was a referendum in Western Australia to succeed from the Commonwealth of Australia but the crown refused to ratify it.
The orrigonal nation was to include the colonies of the north and south islands of new zealand but they opted out at the last minute and WA opted in.
