Apostophe: Let me rephrase a bit - meeting in the flesh could be a total letdown.

..whilst agreeing with you that no clear cut idea may be had unless two people actually spend time together face to face....

....it is also true that it depends a lot on the expectations of the people concerned...

dunno

...I meaan...it is one thing to follow up on an instinct that the person may be an interesting someone who would be worth getting to know better....

...as to expecting that the whole world is going to become one fireworks display once you meet....

head banger

peace

I don't mean to sound flippant asking this question on such a sincere thread - but I was HOPING you might tell me the name of this other dating site you're on. And is it completely free? dancing

Odysseus101: I am on another dating site. There are a few women who write me and send me flowers regularly (basically everyday). I know they have no intention of ever meeting me. But they want the contact, and they appreciate and desire the flattery and flowers from me. It's almost like a ritual. I have come to the conclusion that a lot of us have online relationships that will never be consummated, but we keep them in our hearts, even though we know that anything more is simply impossible for reasons of geography, other relationships, situation, health, etc...In other words, we need the flame of hope inside us, even if it is we ourselves who we are fooling.

Hope dies last.

You are truly right about what you say but what if it were possible to meet that person? For instance if I were to meet a guy that was far away but know its feasible to meet say within Canada or the States for example, I would arrange to meet him; maybe we could both meet halfway from where we live. Just a thought.

Personally, when I hear about long-distance relationships, I feel sorry for the people involved. They are likely to be hurt through it all.

Travelling from one country to another might be easy for millionaires but for most of us its not easy at all. I've done a lot of it, and when you leave a country you'll likely never see the people there again. No matter what your intentions might be.

One or two visits isn't going to ever make a viable relationship. And for someone to actually move from one country to another for an e-relatonship is not likely to happen and not likely to be successful even if it does.

Of course if a little long distance flirting and an imaginary relationship is all either party really wants or expects, that's great. But that needs to be clearly understood by both parties or somebody could be badly hurt.
